I'm currently trying to configure my system for a new ge 8600 gts pci-e 256 mb. I got it working on Windows without any problems. It looks good so far. With a 64k vt, 64k normalmap, 64k vt cloucmap, cloudshadows, cloud normalmap, and the katrina model, I'm getting between 30 and 40 fps. One of the Mars models of Mount Olympus is getting between 20 and 25. With my older card I was getting below 5 fps on earth and below 2 for the Mars model.

Linux, thats another story. It does not recognize the card. It considers it a vesa frame buffer card and I can't get it to use the nvidia driver. I'm going to install Suse 10.2 64 bit system on a new sata 500 gb drive after I get it downloaded. Hopefully I'll have better luck with that.

My question is how to get it working on suse 10 and 9.2. Is it the xorg.config file or will I have to edit the card database file to include the newer card? Or something else? Anyone try the 8000 series cards with Linux?

Been there. Done that. Problem is that the card is new and is not recognized by my linux systems. I think the problem lies more with xorg 7.2 than the display drivers. If I ever find out what info goes in what file I may get it to work manually but I'll probally have to wait for the updates.

Does anyone know what the latest nforce 64 bit driver is? It seems that the latest nforce driver I could find was 32 bit. ver 1.21?
Suse 10.2 doesn't work either.

Fightspit, looking at your stats your machine probally screams at warp speed.
My windows version improved 500 %.

Well it seems with this newer card that one must follow the directions exactly. I wasn't running sax2 correctly.

After comparing Suse 10.0 and 10.2., I found that 10.2 outperforms 10.0 by 2 to 1 or better. I think it's because of the sata drive where 10.2 is installed. All the other OS's are on an IDE drive. They don't even come close to the sata drive.
