Why don't you let us know a bit about your side effects during the coming days??
I suppose in GB you are also getting Pandemrix (or its GB equivalent) by default?

CC,

everyone can insist in principle to receive the 'tame' vaccination =Celvapan (=> "Polititian", soldier, pregnant women,...), containing no amplifiers and no mercury....But since there is no free dinner here, the protection from Celvapan is less good than from the default vaccin = Pandemrix (due to the lack of amplifiers).

That "amplifiers" leave me a bit perplex... Does Mercury (Hg) enhance the drug? I wonder whether with a bit of Vanadium (V) and Molybdenum (Mo) does make best. Surely would make the vaccin more strong.

Germany's Robert Koch institute emphasizes that the Hg content is completely harmless: it's purpose is only the conservation of the vaccin: so 3 shots can be given from one standard dose of Pandemrix within 24h => just a money saving argument. They furthermore state that the amount of Hg only corresponds to 1/4 of the daily amount of Hg intake via food.

No side effects 'cept for a sore arm... it's still a bit sore now, although I am a softy!... Oh... and an insatiable desire for beer!
Yes... Pandemrix in the mix... looking forward to developing fur and black eyes.

Friends,

now the "Swine party" really starts...

Recently, the number of new Swine flu infections in Germany doubles in each week, which signals a clearcut exponential growth law!

Here is the latest (somewhat frightening) graph of new weekly infections from Germany's RKI:
Note the last bin! The first peak on the left was in August (1st wave), then there was the minimum in September and thereafter now, the 2nd wave is "exploding"...

Image

and this plot illustrates the corresponding strong rise of the total number of infections in Germany:

Image

During the past week, 6 people died and as of today we got 10 fatalities due to Swine flu in Germany. Remember, we had NONE until about 2 weeks ago!

Hi friends,

1.5 hours ago, my wife and I got our Swine flu shot. Since beginning of this week, everyone can get a vaccination in Germany, irrespective of age, professional activity or health risk category. As mostly in Europe, the vaccine is Pandemrix. It's pros and cons were discussed a lot in the media...

In Hamburg, things seem to be well organized and indeed, there was almost no waiting required (~ 5 minutes). Three people in white were concerned with us: A lady behind a desk, who took my written OK statement. The medical doctor (she was from an eastern country) who performed the shot and answered 1-2 questions of mine. Finally, a man sitting in the corner who was watching us, whether we were possibly getting into an allergic shock state (he had the most boring job, I gather ;-) ).. Apparently such allergic shocks develop in the first minutes after the injection and the doctors only got ~ 90 secs for action. Fortunately, they are VERY rare.

Before entering this general health institution, there was a kiosk where forms and infos were distributed.

The doctor told me that (a considerable amount of) immunity will be acquired already after 1-1.5 weeks. They are still studying whether a second shot will be necessary. If so, we shall be phoned in about 3 weeks from now.

Now let's see what happens. So far nothing, but there will be most probably more in 3-4 hours from now.

The likelyhood that I get the A N1H1 virus is now extremelly strong, since many of my own students are having it, right now in the classroom where I'm standing today ! :x

And guess what ? The Canada/Quebec governements haven't distributed the anti-virus to the teachers yet !! What a gang of stupid fools !

Also in Germany, Norway and numerous other European countries there is already a substantial shortage of Swine flu vaccin. Here teachers are NOT considered as priviledged people for a vaccination as well, unlike police, medical staff, ...While sufficiently many doses had been ordered in all cases by the governments, the industry simply doesn't manage to come up fast enough with their products in high quality.

My wife and I are now 27 hours after the injection and are still feeling pretty well. Our left arms felt sore yesterday night, but even that is getting better meanwhile. Let's see whether there is more to come... We got so many vaccinations (Cholera, Small Pocks, Yellow fever, Typhoid fever , para Typhoid fever, Hepatitis, Polio, Tetanus, Seasonal Flu...) notably during the years of our high-density travelling to exotic locations... Thus we hope to survive this one, too ;-)

Fridger

PS:

Martin, if you catch the virus you will be in good "company" , since a number of Celestians have already reported to me about their Swine flu infections. Right now a longstanding member is also having it (most probably), after his wife and kids had it as well some time earlier...

Reiko,

thanks for your good wishes... eventually immunity will be ~ 85%, which is not such a bad figure.
However, this will require a couple of weeks time, and possibly a second shot. Nobody knows for sure at this time.

Since this thread is located in 'Purgatory', I think it is not inadequate to write occasionally about less serious events:

Here is already the second invitation to an international Swine Flu conference in the US that I received today:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chairman wrote:

RE: The Chicago Swine Flu School Planning Workshop on November 19-20, 2009.

Dear Colleague:

In light of President Obama's declaring a national emergency for swine flu, and as a medical professional, community organizer and
Chairman of the upcoming Chicago Swine Flu Conference on November 19-20, 2009, I know first hand the impact that our present flu sea son is having upon our schools, families and in the broader community.
In Chairing the International Swine Flu Conference in Washington,
D.C. in August of this year, I obtained a wealth of knowledge and insight as the conference engaged over 40 countries with resources and cutting edge sciences as it related to vaccine issues, manufacturing, distribution to dispelling fears, enhancing collaborations with entities surrounding not only schools but the community at large.

The experience was thought provoking and the body of knowledge shared throughout the conference allowed the hundreds of delegates who attended to return to there respective countries and communities to educate others and through risk management enable them to prepare a unique series of protocols to aid in community response to the pandemic in the areas of prevention, preparedness, response and recovery for H1N1.

As an educator, you know best that education continues to be our
best wea pon against H1N1. So join with me and other for two days
of informative swine flu planning work shops with national leaders from organizations representing school nurses, school social workers, school counselors, school resource officers, school boards, school psychologists, teachers, school health associations.
The slated expert presenters attending will be sharing their unique perspectives in line with the CDC and WHO and provide answers to the ever changing landscape of our present swine flu pandemic. Their analysis and input will assist those in attendance with working collaboratively in obtaining an enhanced plan of action for perspective schools and communities. If you have any spe cial questions please feel free to call me at 702.400.1025 or if you should require more information regarding elements of or attending the conference don't hesitate to contact Kate Ramirez at 202.536.2844 or kate.ramirez@new-fields.net.

Bob,

it seems rather incredible to me that you wouldn't receive a high-priority vaccination at this time, given your various medical conditions! Diabetes, for instance is an important risk factor that over here entitled people to early vaccinations.

Incidentally, with the health care system that we have in Europe, that President Obama wants and that so many Americans don't like, all vaccinations are completely FREE by law. For EVERYONE, including the poorest who might not have enough money to buy a health insurance in the US ...

There have been so many problems in the US with manufacturing the vaccine that it has caused a shortage. I think they are catching up now so it should be available to everybody before long. It might be free for some but not all.
