OS X 10.4.11

Post #1by Cham » 15.11.2007, 22:51

I installed the update 10.4.11 yesterday, which includes Safari 3.0.4, on my Mac dual G5. Everything is working fine, and the new Safari is really great (much better than Safari 2, actually). I was just wondering about the experience of other users which are still on Tiger (I'm not really interested in Leopard for the moment).

Any comments on OS X 10.4.11 and Safari 3 ?

I've changed Camino for Safari3 since the beta because actually this is THE browser on osX...

Haven't updated yet to .11...

Do you mean you're using Safari 3.0.4 ?

For the moment, I find it great. Huge improvements for reading PDF documents, and also to the Find options.

The find option is great, the RSS reader excellent and the overhall speed is quite faster than other browsers...

(actually I'm using 3.03 -> 3.04 comes with the system update)

I haven't installed it yet, but 10.4.11 does not include any graphics driver updates as far as I can tell, so Celestia should run no better or worse on this update.

I didn't noticed any difference at all, in Celestia. I wasn't expecting anything, on this side. If only Apple corrected the bug with the sprites, I'm waiting for this, so I can launch my Mathematica project... O well.

While I don't think it's realistic to expect any more graphics bug fixes in the 10.4.x Tiger series, it is perfectly possible that Apple will fix (or if we're lucky, might have already fixed) the point sprite crashing bug in Leopard 10.5.x.

Rhaaa ! I had few glitches on my system, after that update. The most irritating one, is about text color editing in the message window. Selecting it gives a wrong code, like this :

[color=red]Color test[/color]

Selecting the color from the colors menu gives this code, if I select a text string and apply the color :

Code: Select all

[color=#444444][color=red[/color]]Color test[/color]

I now have to edit the color code by hand, because of this. Anyone with 10.4.11 having this problem ?

I also experienced something odd with DVD mounting on the desktop. Some standard DVDs refused to mount for some time. Appears to be unpredictable. :evil:

The bbcode issue you're seeing is probably a Safari 3 issue..? Do you have any 3rd party Safari addons installed?

Haven't really heard of any DVD problems yet with this update.

I suspect the bug is in Safari 3.0.4. The only plug-in I have is CosmoPod.

About the DVDs, I can mount them right now. I had the bug only once yet, I'm unable to reproduce it. However, I'm unable to mount any CD since few months, I don't know why. It doesn't seems to be related to the system. Maybe an hardware issue.
