The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Post #1by WOWspaceISbig » 04.10.2007, 01:47

I understand that many of you are quite familiar with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so maybe some of you can help me with a little problem I'm having:

I recently bought the book version of the Guide, but I also found the original 6 episodes of the radio play, and I'm well aware that the book tends to conflict with the original radio play. I'm trying to decide if I should:

a. Read the book and listen to the radio play.

b. Just listen to the radio play.

c. Just read the book.

So, what do you guys suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Just read the book. It's far more descriptive and colorful than the radio play... the radio play was content limited due to its air-time limitations. There was also a version done for tv, which was even more-so content limited. And, make sure you read all of the books in the series.

Well, the book that I have contains all the books in the series, so I'll be sure to do so. Thanks for the suggestion! :D

Read the book

The radio version is fun, so is the TV version, but they are NO substitute.

3 recommendations for the book, and none for the original radio play, so I guess I'm definitely reading the book. Thanks, guys! :)

Well I would say read the book BUT you really should listen to the radio play.
There are story lines and totally off the wall moments (eg nature of reality and shoe horizon) that are only in the radio version. The TV series was total crap and added nothing whatsoever to the story.

Note that radio play isnt adaptation of book - its the original. Manic and occasionally obvious that Adams is making it up as he goes. The books allowed him to rationalise the material somewhat though still needs Dues Ex Machina for last book.
