In the excellent book entitled, "Hyperspace", theorical physicist Michio Kakumentioned about three kinds of civilizations:

Type 0, 1, 2, & 3 Civilizations:

Type 0 We are a Type 0 civilization, which extracts its energy from dead plants (oil and coal).

Artificial and internal catastrophes must also be negotiated. But the problem of global pollution is only a mortal threat for a Type 0 civilization

Type I?€“ this civilization harnesses the energy output of an entire planet.

Type II this civilization harnesses the energy output of a star, and generates about 10 billion times the energy output of a Type I civilization.

Type III this civilization harnesses the energy output of a galaxy, or about 10 billion time the energy output of a Type II civilization.

I may interpret this wrong, But I think there was meant a general attitude towards life.

And there the answer would shure be, that it depends on the hostility of the environment where the extraterrestrial life evolved, the mutation rate, the mean lifetime of an individual and the usual birth rate. If lifetime would be low, and everything else high, one would expect a rather aggressive species. The other way round one would expect a more calm and contemplative species.

On the other hand: Once a planetwide civilisation has emerged, the species would have detached from the primortial evolution process and that would cut off extreme behaviour.

I personally think, that if we're basing the development of a civilisation, that it be based on several criteria, not merely energy consumption-- Namely, the balance between adaptation, conservation and consumption. The truly-high civilisation will attempt to get the most maximum bang for the most minimal expenditure, as to cause the least disturbance resulting from said power consumption. Such a civilisation which does not recklessly consume resources usually is not going to be a bother to its neighbours (ie: invasions), and itself would be stable enough to last for many generations, and decline peacefully of its own accord when the time comes. (Usually complacency results in just such entropy.)

We are still generations away from even approaching that level of technology, but it's not at all outside our reach, if we so desire.

...YES, also the ENTROPY is the chief problem for the "intelligent life":
