Another spin configuration for hot Jupiters

Post #1by ajtribick » 18.06.2006, 12:15

As well as the zero-obliquity tide-locked configuration, hot Jupiters can also apparently end up in a state where the planet spins on its side (obliquity near 90 degrees).

This would cause really weird weather patterns no doubt.

A tilted, expanded hot Jupiter, eh?
Like a giant, hot Uranus?

(Sounds a little painful actually).

I must say, Chaos, that this particular link you provided is very interesting.

Yeah, I've yet to have a proper look at it, but I took a quick look and it's really wacky stuff. Interesting though!
