Er, that was reported in May 2005 (and happened in January 2005) - why are you posting about it now?

What, you think it won't happen again?

Of course it will happen again. Lots of things will happen again, doesn't mean one should post links to old articles about them as if they're current news though.

I thought it was odd because we're at a solar minimum at the moment and I thought this was reporting a weird event in the middle of that, but it turned out that this actually happened over a year ago. So I basically wasted my time looking at this page since it contained nothing relevant to anything going on today.

If you'd just posted it as a question about solar flares and linked to the article instead as a reference then that would have made a lot more sense and would have been more useful.

I didn't post this as current news - it's clearly dated 24 May 05. It was posted as information for anyone who might be interested, who might not be as up-to-date as you obviously are.

Even if that was your intention, the subject line is what was misleading. "Flaretime!" sounds very much like it's referring to something going on now.
Plus, there was no text in your post to say why you even posted it at all. Maybe you thought it was current, maybe not - either way, just posting a link with no further explanation could mean anything at all.

(As an aside, I really don't get why you don't just say "oh, sorry. I'll post more explanation next time" and leave it at that instead of continuing to defend your post. If it was an honest oversight then it's OK to say so, I won't bite your head off for it. It's a general problem I've noticed on the 'net - people tend to say "Whatever" more than "Sorry" now. :( )

Whatever.

(Couldn't resist it)
