First i want to send a big "hello" to everyone since im new here :)

And please excuse my English if sometimes seem crude :(

Anyway, to my question. Yesterday we had a discussion with a friend and i had a thought that it may seem silly, but i just want to ask here if it is ( theoretically of course ) possible

if there was a telescope looking at earth from 2000 light years away, and this telescope was so greatly advanced ( beyond our imagination i suppose - to do something like that at least ) that from such a distance it could see right down to the earth's surfuce... would it see the ancient Rome?

Thanks :D

Yep. They'd be seeing light that left the Earth 2000 years ago. Conversely, if we were to look at the planet looking at the Earth, we'd see THAT as it was 2000 years ago too...
