What is it? The heat shield?
We all live under the same sky, but we do not have the same horizon. (K. Adenauer)
The horizon of some people is a circle with the radius zero - and they call it their point of view. (A. Einstein)

Location of various shed parts of Opportunity lander

Post #4by timcrews » 23.12.2004, 16:31

The following image from the Mars Rov[img]er web site helps put the location of things in perspective:

http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/press/opportunity/20040209a/02_overview_labels-B016R1_br.jpg

This image was produced (nearly a year ago!) after Opportunity landed, but before it started moving around. The dot labelled "Opportunity lander" is the small crater where it landed. The large circle to the right is, of course, Endurance Crater, where it spent many months exploring. Below that is the heat shield that it is going to inspect.
