Hello, see
http://skyandtelescope.com/news/article_1241_1.asp for more info (and a short movie).
Curiously, can't reproduce it in Celestia. Someone could see it running?

It does work if you go to Earth, look at Jupiter and allow light transit delay.

Cheers for this interesting item Jeam. I'm viewing the triple transit with no problems whilst orbiting Jupiter.

So this will explain why I'm seeing the transit at approximately 07:20 to 07:40 UTC ?

PS Jeam
Don't do what I did at first, and try to view this with eclipse shadows switched off

Here is what I see on Mar 28, 2004 at 07:31:06 UTC

Not quite the same as the video on Sky & Telescope

plus their movie evolved into 4 shadows on the surface at once.

Don't blame Celestia :) .

That middle dot is not a shadow but Ganymede. Io is not contrasted enough to be visible. Except for time it looks just correct. You have to take the lightspeed into account, so Jupiter must be viewed from Earth.

No, strange...

Jeam,

You did not turn on light-time delay.

The light from jupiter takes several minutes to get to us.
After you get Jupiter properly centered,
Select Jupiter
Type a "-"
LY will be shown after the time and the positions of the moons will change to an earlier configuration. You will have to advance time to see the event:

Here's what I see at 8:08 UT.

Hi Selden,

this pic below is what i will see, but my time is different to yours.
Maybe the diferent location we are live.

Here the linke to a large Pic: Jupter on 28 March 04

Light-time delay is enabled.

Commander David,

If you select "Show local time" in the Time menu, it will toggle between UTC and your local time. I normally use UTC, so that it's easier to compare timestamps.

Selden you are right. Now i see the same as you. Thx for that advice.

Many Thanks, friends. (Great explanations as usual Selden!) I don't know why i can see only one shadow (all moons are on the right place at this date) but i've some little problems with my install and must refresh Celestia soon -too many addons, too many corrections, too old card and maybe a personnal bug  Your shots are very nice pictures of this spectacular phenomenon :) Jeam

No, Psychotik, same screen as mine with my testings: problems must be in my installation, computer AND Celestia: I must clean them.
Other thing: Your site is nicer and nicer, good work! Jeam

I'm intrigued, Jeam. Can you translate bourrique de mule into English for me?
Knowing the literal translations of bourrique and mule doesn't help!

Hello, my apologies Grant, all: I had not tried to translate these French words becauses they were just pretty joke for Psychotik. 'Bourrique' and 'mule' are of course the animals (ass, aness, mule etc.) who are considered like particularly restive, vicious or idiot ('t?tu comme une mule'; 'bourrique'; '?ne b?t?' in french, I don't know the equivalent english idiomatics, if there are some). And 'La Mule' is a familiar nickname for 'Emule', the program used on the Psychotic site to share big Celestia addons. Program that I wasn't be able to use correctly! (Braindead, or '?ne b?t?' Am I!)Does It Helps?Sorry again, Jeam

No need to apologize, Jeam. I was just curious to see a French phrase I didn't understand, and wondered if it was some useful idiom I could drop into conversation . I didn't know about Emule and "La Mule", and therefore didn't get your joke - so it's me who should apologize!
Thanks for the explanation.

Grant

PS: Yes, there are corresponding mule/ass idioms in English: I think for t?tu comme une mule we might say "mulish". From what you say I'm not sure if there's a direct equivalent to ?ne b?t? (="loaded donkey"?) - I'd have guessed "jackass", but in English that's more deliberately stupid than is implied by your translation "brain dead".
