Fantastic,

Any idea how the color gamut / white balance was calibrated on these John?
There seems to be quite a lot of greenish colored rocks in some of those pictures.

What tool are you using John? ... Looks like The GIMP or Photoshop.

Have you tried ImageMajick for this task?

Maybe it will make the task a little easier. I can't recommend, as I haven't ever used IM for this particular task, but I'm thinking it may be helpful.
