Is crepe ring visible only in photos?

Last night,I was observing Saturn with my 7.1 inch homemade newtonian reflector and I could cleary saw the crepe ring(ring C),in front of the planet??s disk. But I think I could also saw the crepe ring in the sides, like a blackening of the interior side of ring B.But many people claim that the ring C is so subtle that only can be seen in photographs. So,do I saw an optical illusion?
I saw the planet at magnifications of 135X,193X and 270X.
