Venus Raised-Relief 3D Globe Simulated Pictures

Post #1by GlobeMaker » 09.11.2005, 17:16

There are some new pictures of simulated Venus globes on my website. The terrain has 3D shapes for mountains, valleys, and craters. The mysterious textured terrain is seen on some of the images. For pictures with 7x exaggeration of elevations, use this link :

The 3D model is made from 4.6 million triangles.

For 150x exaggeration use this :

To see "continents" visible above low cloud cover, go here :

That last page has a link to a .avi motion picture of Venus spinning as a 3D model.

Here is an example :

If you have a specific area of Venus that you want me to make an image of, please let me know.

Some of the models used the combined databases from Magellan, Venera, and Pioneer-Venus Orbiter spacecraft. These elevations were combined by a digital program to cover areas that Magellan missed. You can see the coarse 1 degree grid data from the combined 3 spacecraft as areas with a brick-like texture.

The images may be useful to other people who are trying to eliminate the vertical stripe artifacts from Magellan. Seeing the stripes from several 3D perspectives may communicate the shapes of the stripe errors.
Your wish is my command line.
