I dunno... sometimes I wonder if we aren't getting a bit too Copernican in our views. What if we really are unique? What if there really is no other intelligent life out there? It's a sobering thought.

I'd heartily recommend the 2001 Nights manga series, by Yukinobu Hoshino. It's about mankind exploring space in the not too distant future, and finding that we do indeed appear to be alone in our intelligence... but there is life out there. Rather philosophical stuff, and the stories are excellent and well written.

I figure if there was no other life in our universe our solar system would be inside a small bubble in some gigantic lab run by machines...

What am I doing? Ah, nothing much. Just laying on my bed, watching the stars, and sky, and keep asking myself: 'Where the Hell is my Roof?'.

It seems to me that the question we should ask ourselves is: If there is other life intelligent or not, are we intelligent enough to recognise it in the first place.

Even if it were to be proved that we are in a lab as you say, I doubt if it would take more than a day before the nutters of the world proclaimed that they are the chosen favorites of the machines!

Sometimes it's hard to believe there's intelligent life on Earth let alone elsewhere!

As we said, the term of "Intelligent Life" is very relative.
