Rulers and square frames for reference

Post #1by GlobeMaker » 10.12.2005, 22:34

Rulers and Frames for Reference

You are invited to download some new .3ds models of rulers and
square frames. Each 3D object is designed to be 1000 units long,
with several widths available. The files sizes are 356 bytes for a
ruler and 628 bytes for a square frame. This is in preparation
for displaying "frames of reference" in Celestia in the future.

Rulers with length 1000 units:

Ruler file name width
r_500_516.3ds 500
r_200_516.3ds 200
r_20_516.3ds 20
r_2_516.3ds 2
r_.2_517.3ds 0.2
r_.02_517.3ds 0.02

Square frames with lengths 1000 units:

Frame file name width
f_200_520g.3ds 200
f_20_531.3ds 20
f_2_531.3ds 2

You can download an example solarsys.ssc file from the same
place as the 3D models. They are marked as Not Copyrighted
in each file header.

These rulers have been enlarged up to 80,000 light years long. But they
are only visible if the observer is within one light year of Earth.
How big can you make them and still see them?
These are some levers that Archimedes could have used to
virtually move the Celestia Earth. Here is a picture of rulers and
frames enlarged to 2000km, orbiting the Moon.
