Attention!! The HD28185 System Add-on is being turned over to the GalaxiStar project. So I will be removing the download links on Friday November 2, 2007. The entire project including textures will become the property of GalaxiStar. I will be giving them both the high resolution and lower resolution texture package I never released. They will using the add-on as they see fit. I am sure they will be merging it with there own HD28185 section. Any questions and or comments can be made at the end of this thread. Thanks for your support and I hope that everyone will support the GalaxiStar project.

PROJECT & TOPIC CLOSED!

FANTASTIC! When you made your announcement in the Users forum I was hoping it would be this. It was randomly finding the gallery to a previous version of this add-on from Google that brought me into the whole Celestia community, and I've been waiting for this one ever since!

Can't wait to give it a spin. The screenshots look superb.

Huzzah!

By the way, any quibbles about oddities in the 'orbital mechanics' of this system shouldn't be put to Don, 'cos I done it. Don's blameless!

Unfortunately, I can't use the high res version, nor can I read dds files.. Regardless of this, you can bet that I'll be downloading these files anyway, in anticipation of the day (hopefully soon) when I CAN take advantage of them! And in the meantime, I can't wait for the jpg version....

Don, this has to be the best add-on that I've seen yet. Well done!

This may take a while for me to download, looks like I'll have to do it in the USA quiet time.

Great work, Don; i expecially liked your Erebus!
Also, i am particularily impressed by the beautiful asteroid models... I am working hard at asteroid modelling myself right now, and looking at yours is a revelation.

A few bugs:
- No STC file. So, why comment out the original star entry...?

These textures are missing from your package:
rogue-body 2: wodan.jpg
rogue-body 3: freya.jpg

... And this one, which it seems you have borrowed from Ran (quite Ok):
illimani_ th: 04moon2k.jpg
Rogue-body 1: th_04moon2k.jpg

There isn??t a readme-file or licence included either, which would have been nice (also for the star AddOn).

Now, have to go; there is a lot to explore here... Thanks!

Well I've downloaded it and it just about runs provided I don't include all the minor bodies ssc files... I might cull them to just the largest members or something, to provide an idea of where the asteroid belts are...

This system is, to put it bluntly, spectacular. The moons of the system each have their own individual character, even the lifeless cratered worlds exhibit a stunning diversity.

Excellent work.

Yes, Great work ,Don!
I'll waiting for the non-DDS version for my poor computer, but for the moment, on vacation, i can run this system on a good config and it's a real pleasure to explore your worlds... Just waiting for the missing textures, and i'll add screenshots on my catalog when i'll return home.

Very nice, but it seem to be a conflict.I unzip parts 1,2 and 3 but part 4 can??t be unzipped. And when I tried to extract part 4,it asks for part 2,although is already installed.
Can you help me?

Small bugs I have found:

* The number keys 1, 2, 3 select the asteroids instead of the planets. To fix this, rename the "New HD 28185.ssc" file so its name is before the inner asteroid belt file. Then 1, 2, 3 to 6 all select planets.

* Typing in "HD 28185" does not select the system. I must type in "HIP 20723" instead.

danielj.
What are using to unRAR the files. They were compressed with WinRAR and if you use it, it should decompress all the archives together as one. If you are using WinRAR it could be a version issue I used 3.02 I think. Everyone else seems to be having no problem.

bdm,
I never took that into consideration. I always wondered how to fix that.
As for the HD 28185 versus HIP 20723 I don't seem to have that problem with latest build. I have noticed that the latest build takes the HIP name over the Hd 28185 name. Maybe I should rename the add-on HD 28185/HIP 20723. I personaly like the HD 28185 name better. It has a nice ring to it and it rolls off the tounge easier than HIP 20723.

AS more bugs are found I will try and incorporate a patch of sorts. It sounds like most of the bugs are in the temporary belt and rouge body plug-ins. These are temporary anyway and hopefully will be replaced in the near future.

I will be off the project for a while. I have some finishing touches to do to the new Mars texture and I have a few non-Clestia projects I have to take care of. One is testing almost 100 various hard drives for a client, most of them 9GB SCSI. Another is going to be covered in a post in the Purgatory section of the forum. It seems I have never started a thread there and what I am going talk about fits this area best. See you over there.

Don.

I am using Winrar.
But the minor objects like comets and rogue bodies are lacking textures.Isn??t the addon totally complete? What??s in HD 28185 star?I think more than 80 MB only to flares is too much...

Frankly, I fully appreciate all of the work Don has put into this, and I don't really care how large the files are. The larger the files, the better the eye candy.

Thanks again Don!

Danielj!!!!Do you REALLY read this thread? We have already pointed the missing textures, and noticed exactly which they are... And about the star, this is a detailled model (like the complete portrait of our Sun by Runar -186Mb) as Don explained. And it looks great  Jeam

Don., I'm wondering if all textures (planetary ones) really need to be 4K...
I mean I'm almost sure in many cases, with a good 2K the result will be identical... Also in one or two textures, the dds compression is destroying the nice work of textures... :?
