FINAL release of new Mercury model DONE!!

Hello guys,

I'm waiting for the release of the shuttle for several reasons, so in the meantime I have done this one.

Everybody can tx Andrea for his good job finding all the necessary documents to do the model... so... Andrea, tx again :wink:

A prerelease can be downloaded HERE (3.6Mo)

The ssc is not completely ok as I still met lot of problems in the positioning of the models... (one day I really have to learn all about ssc...)

From the pictures, the model looks awesome, even in it's pre-release state. I'm downloading it right now. Thanks for all your contributions, they really add to the realisim of this great solar system simulator.

Incredibly detailed and realistic, a most important feature for my "Space conquest tour" under construction. :wink:
I think that this, like Big HST, Deep Impact, Cassini-Huygens, your next Shuttle and some other model realized in the last couple years, are the new chapter in Celestia 3DS modelling. 8)
This means that in the future the most demanding problem will be more and more the graphic card power, and this convincted me to wait a bit and spend some more money to buy the 7800 instead of the 6600.
Beauty costs money, alas! :cry:
Well done, Chris, it has been a pleasure to give my little help.
So I invite the Celestia 3DS gurus to contact me for documental support, if they need it, I'll be happy to give my help. :wink:

The model is almost over, I must end the ssc and for that I'm still waiting a response of the ML team (after a week now!! :evil:) because I want to add in it an InfoURL, and want to know if the webpage can be host on ML with the model...

Yes and no; yes some drawings, but not enough photos so it would be a real hard task to model a decent interior...

Just a word of advice to those of you who have texture size restrictions on
your PC's...

I had to re-size the "United States/Liberty Bell 7" texture to 1024x512
before I could see the spacecraft as El Christou meant it to be displayed.

This is simply a limitation imposed on textures on MY machine, but I
thought I'd mention it just FYI.

Oops :oops: :oops:, sorry I forgot this point...
That's a real problem, because in 1024 the resolution must not be enough to match the model's details... :?

El Christou...

I looked at the rendered Liberty Bell 7 very carefully via Doctor Schrempp's and
Toti's version of Celestia FT1, and I saw absolutely no discrepancies that
made any differences to the spacecraft as I thought it ought to look. Of
course, there could be some minor off-setting going on here, but I certainly
didn't notice any. The only thing I see that doesn't match the original
spacecraft (as far as I can tell) is the addition of your American Flag under
the "United States" text. See the following image HERE for more clarification.

Yep, this is a small problem... Apparently Freedom7 had the flag (enterior to LB7), I'm sure for Sigma and Aurora, and LB7 clearly no on the document you point me to... The problem is that I'm not sure about both sides...
Now Most of models of Mercury capsule are shown with the flag (even LB7)... Should I remove it to match the historical one in the final release?

My personal bias would be to make it historically accurate. Just because others make mistakes doesn't mean that you have to make the same ones!

I mentioned the matter only for your information. Far be it for me to
tell you how to make your models. These are clearly superior efforts,
and so I have no problems with the current version whatsoever.

Just for your further enlightenment, however, HERE is the OTHER side of the
same spacecraft. Doesn't look like there was a flag here either, but it's hard
to tell without the hatch attached. <grin>
