Terraform V1.0

Terraform is a very simple random texture generator for Windows 2000/XP users I whipped together and will be the engine I use in the up and coming full blown SSC Generator which will use a graphical Interface with drag and drop features to make world building simple....

Terraform can be downloaded here:
http://celestialvisions.net/files/terraformv1.1.zip

It currently only generates a land map, spec map and normal map....Ill add clouds in later....Im pretty much using this to toy with faster realtime procedural texturing in OpenGL....Its not easy....

Enjoy...

I tried it out, and it made some interesting results. How far are you planning to go with this little gem??

BTW, your atmosphere generator has been absolutely invaluable to me of late. I don't suppose there are any plans to make it available for use off-line?

Now all we need is a ring generator! I still can't make those things properly.... :(

Can't wait to get my hands on that.
I have some ideas for features, just going to list them and hoping you could incorporate them.
Usage of either Absolute or Apparent Magnitude on choosing the star.
How about a feature where you tell the programm how many planets the system should have and which one is venus/earth/mars-like and is then automatically placed in the corresponding life-zone?
Variing inclination of planets when creating a random system.
Random generation of moons (with number of moons specification?) for big planets.

So that's what was on my mind at the moment.

Guckytos

Terraform v1.1 can be downloaded here:

Very cool!

The polar pinch and ring textures are the big bonus, for me.

Thank you!

There is yet another release of this on the way...I found a seam in the normal map and the perlin noise had artifacts in it....Also the clouds werent right....

Does Terraform only generate terrestrial world textures? Can it generate a volcanic world texture?

Seems pretty cool... No way to see that on other platforms?

I still do not have access to anything but windows at this time and my linux knowledge is still limited....I fear that all I will write for is Windows and eventually linux....No mac releases are planned....

I will try to clean up the source when all the bugs are worked out and release that...The code is pretty portable as I use very little windows API when I program.....

As far as it generating other than terrain...I will put that option in the next release....including jovian textures....

If you can do a Linux version, then a osX port will de doable.

You can now get the latest version of Terraform from this link:

http://celestialvisions.net/files/terraformv1.2.zip

Read the readme for details!

Dollan,

In this new version if you are still having trouble converting those ring textures to PNG let me know and Ill just go ahead and use the Corona library for PNG support....which unfortunatly relies on a DLL....

Normally using the Gimp should suffice....

Thats the color map you are looking at....Switch to the alpha channel to see the cloud part....

If you have the gimp, load it in the gimp and save as a png....

Depends on the painting program you are using....

If its Photoshop then it should be the fourth channel in your channels tab...If you cannot see a channel tab anywhere....Press F7 or go from the menu Window > Layers....Make sure there is a checkmark nect to Layers...

I have made a few worlds with this programme, Rassilon; very nice.

Is there any way to control the parameters of the world beforehand? (ie island formation, land sea balance, mountain/plain balance, desertification... and so on?
