Astrocave addon to test

I made a special asteroid, just for fun. It's a small labyrinth INSIDE an asteroid. You can explore it using the keyboard navigation commands, and I suggest you turn on a bit the ambient light so you can see something in there. Look out, there's a special room to search before leaving the asteroid. There's a secret in there. ;-)

Here's a picture of the entrance :

The asteroid is located near 34 Psc and its name is just, well, ... astrocave.

Here's a link to the 9.7 MB zip file :

Feedback would be appreciated. How much FPS do you get ?

If you'd like to have good comparable results, you should provide a cruising script. And - the easier it can be 'quicktested' the more answers ou'll get. ;)

I get 12-60 fps depending on the viewpoint.
(12-15 fps outside in wireframe mode, 60fps in non-wireframe mode; 30fps when inside, looking at the "secret" in non-wireframe mode.)

1GB 3.5GHz P4-550; WinXP Pro SP2
128MB GF 6600GT; ForceWare v77.72

Secret: 33 fps

On my home AthlonXP2200+/1.7GHz/785MB RAM system with GeForce MX440 - 64MB:

I have updated the model (same link as above, but I'm giving it again below). The "secret" is now MUCH lower polygonal, to help getting a better frame rate. Now, it's only a small gem inside some room.

The corridors have been updated as well. I think it's a bit more interesting to navigate inside. The asteroid is also better looking from the outside (less dullish).

The goal here is to enter the asteroid, find the jewel, and go out. Without passing by a wall. There's no collision detection in Celestia, so if you suddenly see the star field, while you were inside the asteroid, then it's because you have "hit" a wall. As I said, you'll need to turn up the ambient light, and use the navigation keys ("a" to accelerate, "s" to stop, keypad to move around). I suggest using a velocity of about 300 m/s (the asteroid has a 10 km radius). Beware, there are two dead ends inside.

I'm not satisfied with the texture mapping, which is distorded and blurry inside, and I don't see how to map it in a better way.

Whoa... that was a very dark, scary journey in what is normally a very uplifting, airy program. I loved it!!!!

15 fps... now if only we can throw in some low thumping and groaning noises...
