installing Addons

Post #1by Asteeleleith » 08.07.2005, 03:01

Hi guys
Perhaps someone can help as i am a little confused.
When installing an Add-on does it all go into the celestria directory itself. I ask as when i unzip the addons they seem to create files of their own. Like Star Trek might have its own data file etc.
so do the files go into Celestrias own directory, or remain in the files as collected
Apologies if i am confusing everyone

Best Wishes

Alastair

Depending on the type of add-on, most come with a Read Me text file that includes installation instructions. If yours doesn't, you can find a post in this forum (I've seen it before but, don't remember where) that'll give more detailed instructions. For Example: If it's a Virtual Texture, look under the Celestia Textures forum section otherwise, you could try the Celestia Add-Ons section and check the topic headings for a match.

You can get most of your Add-On questions answered at Selden's page:
http://www.lns.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/addon-intro.html
It's quite comprehensive so, I'd advise you to take your time and read everything. I don't think you'll have any questions when you're done.
Hi guys. Listen, they're telling me the uh,
generators won't take it, the ship is breaking apart and all that. Just, FYI.

Thank you for that
But say fdor example i have installed the Star Trek Addon, how do i get to view it, you know see the enterprises etc.? I have tried searching for the enterprises, tried searching for Borg vessels etc. No joy.
I am sure this wil be most enjoyable and interesting when i get the hang of it

Please take a look at the Web page http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/addon-intro.html

It explains how the files and folders of an Addon should be organized.

Once you have installed a fictional addon, make sure you know what star the addon is intended to modify;
for instance the add-on for the Nostromo from the film Alien is located around the star Zet2 Ret
(Zeta II Reticuli)
You can find this star by selecting Navigation in the toolbar at the top, the Select Object; type in Zet2 Ret and you will select the star required. Now press G and you will 'travel' to that star; once in the vicinty of the star you can find the various objects using the Solar System Browser option.

Celestia does not currently allow you to select a spaceship or planet in another solar system directly from the toolbar. The easiest way to find your goal is to 'travel' to the star concerned first.
