Rigel Kentaurus B Addon Preview + Other Stuff

Post #1by Michael Kilderry » 13.05.2005, 10:16

With Proxima Centauri nearly finished, I've made a start on my next addon, another solar system, this time around Rigel Kentaurus B. I know there are other addons already using the Alpha Centauri theme, but I still wanted to make my own.

Here are some pictures of the first two planets,

Here are some pictures of planet No.1, it is named Vulcano. I have mentioned this planet in the Proxima Centauri thread. It is a very hot molten Earth sized planet:

Planet No.2 is named Cytherea, I named it this because I have used a texture from Kitherea (a planet from the Lera System) to help make the texture for this planet

This place is on the very inner edge of the habitable zone around Rigel Kentaurus B. A lot of it's surface is desert. The parts that aren't are thriving with mangrove-like forests that feed off the shallow muddy seas of the planet that are invisible above the canopy.

Next planet to be featured: Terrin, a true earthlike planet.

Feel free to comment!

Michael :)

PS. I have completely started over on my addons forum. A link to it can be found in my signature below. Information and pictures on all my addons can be found there soon when I repost it.

I know that this thread is supposed to be about my Rigel Kentaurus B addon, but I'll give updates on my new and improved forum here as well.

I've made one of the planet descriptions for the forum, here's a link:

http://www.phpbbserver.com/phpbb/viewto ... lestia#144
(please wait for the page to load properly)

What do you think? Should I include any other information?

I've done some information for another planet as well:

http://www.phpbbserver.com/phpbb/viewto ... lestia#146

I'm doing the information for the Lera planets first, which means it's going to take me awhile to get up to doing info for planets of the Proxima Centauri and Rigel Kentaurus B addons.

My name's Centaurian on my forum BTW. I thought it was about time to make up my own internet username instead of using my real one. :?

I've made a start on rewriting the story that used to be on my addons forum before I redid it.

The link can be found here:

http://www.phpbbserver.com/phpbb/viewto ... mkcelestia

Chapter One has been written so far, but there will be more to come.

New members are still needed for the forum, I'm still the only one since I remodelled it 8O, so make your posts there if you have stuff to write about!

My addons forum has received it's first registered user (second registered user if you count me). Not really worth writing about but still.

Yay! :D

From now on I've decided to include download links to my addons on my signature as well as the status of addon(s) still in the making, here's an example:

~My Celestia Addons~

Finished and available for download:

The Lera Solar System (~22MB)

Addons in still in the making:

Proxima Centauri Solar System (currently fixing up bugs)
Rigel Kentaurus B Solar System (currently creating 3rd planet, Terrin)

What do you think?

Hello,

I'm doing something new with the planets I've made with Celestia.

I'm using Terragen to create planetary surfaces for the planets of the Lera addon (only Jovalera so far). Here's a picture:

Image

The large moon on the horizon is Marbles, you can also see a ring arc curving up into the sky.

The moon is rising, and it will bring the tides into the big valley, turning the tall mesas into islands.

If true, then your (recent) creations are definitely remarkable.
When I was 14, I spent lots of time painting similar motives
in water colors ;-) .

Thanks, I feel really complemented. :D

With addons to come I plan to start experimenting with making VTs and spaceship models and possibly even xyz files.

Here are some more landscape images made with Terragen of planets in the Lera System. (I'll get back to the Rigel Kentaurus B topic when I finish the next planet of the addon).

Pramarr's landscape: (Click to enlarge)

Kitherea's landscape. (Click to enlarge)

I use these as my desktop background pictures. :D

The next planned Terragen landscape images are going to be based on Jovalera's moons.

Does anybody have any preference over the Terragen landscape images so far? My favourite has to be the Kitherea one with the extinct volcano.

My least favourite would be the Pramarr landscape, it doesn't look quite as well detailed as the rest IMO.
