Maybe it is too transparent. try this:

>Aline yourself with Jupiter's equator and face out into space
>slowly move closer to jupiter. At some piont you should see the rings moving across the screen

I hope this helps.

Don't know what addon you have, what install, but...Have you verify if the rings are correctly credited in the solarsys.ssc or a 'modify' ssc (in the extras folder) for Jupiter ? With good texture's name, and mini /maxi distances from the planet? If so, you must see Jupiter ring as you can see the Sat' ones. Jeam

Jeam,

Do you have your Jupiter rings specified from in your solarsys.ssc file?
'Cos I'm not sure if they'll work if you try running them from the Extras directory.

Hello Terrier, mine is effectively added in the solarsys.ssc file, with the texture added in the main 'textures/medres' folder; but if you create a folder into the extras repertory, with his own 'textures/medres' subfolders, and a new.ssc file with (only) the abstract item about Jupiter rings, like this:
Modify "Jupiter" "Sol"
{
Rings {
Inner 123000
Outer 240000
Texture "JupiterRings.png"
}
}
it seems to me that it will work as well as the other way... but you don't have to edit the solarsys.ssc file :-)
So, my english is not the best: please, can you translate to me what 'esperis' wants *exactly*, i am not sure about his curious questions :-)Jeam

hi,
download the Jupiter's Rings add-on from the John's website:

http://johnscelestiapage.no-ip.com/filemgmt/viewcat.php?cid=14

Extract the "JupiterRings.png" into Your texture folder.

Edit Your Solarsys.ssc and put at the end of "Jupiter" "Sol" this entry:

Rings {
Inner 123000
Outer 240000
Texture "JupiterRings.png"
}

Launch Celstia and enjoy :wink:

Check to make sure that the texture image that you use for Jupiter's Rings fits into your graphics card's texture buffer. Celestia shows the maximum texture size that you can use in the Help menu, OpenGL Info.

Ah, if you can see a ring, an untextured one now, here is an explanation: your graphic card can't handle king size textures, so you have to reduce the rinss textures. Seems to me the JVV was originally 4k sized (4048 pix lengh) Keep it a copy, and try to turn it (with a picture editor) into 2024(2k) -or 512.(1k) You can host the 2024 into the medres folder, the 512 in the lores.(all with the same name) (you can also test the 4k into the hires folder). Now restart Celestia and test with the 'R' and 'r' key. Maybe the Hires will not work,again, but the other ones must do. Jeam
