The Planets of MS SPace Simulator

Post #1by PlutonianEmpire » 16.02.2005, 06:30

About a year ago or two, when I first got celestia and started creating my addons, I eventually decided to "copy" the planets from Microsoft Space simulator to celestia via manual observation of the program. I've already done capella and Deneb, and Betelgueze is unfinished, and I"m thinking of uploading them to Motherlode in one zip file when I"m all done. Most of the planets and moons will use the textures provided by celestia and Rassilon's globular cluster generator.

Would I be violating any copyright laws if I uploaded the ssc files for public use?

I am pretty sure that M$ would be very upset if they found out you were distributing anything from them without their permission. I would advise against it.

Cheers,

Even though the only things I did were:

orbital distances,
inclinations,
day lengths,
direction of orbit,
direction of object spin,
number of planets and moons,
and object types and sizes,

and even though I didn't do the copy/paste thing and ran spacesim on a separate computer while manually determining the stuff on my current computer?

I was just reading a book about copyrighting.

Would I be violating any copyright laws if I uploaded the ssc files for public use?

From what I had comprehen, You have to ask for rights of that kind of use.

If they find out, You can be sued for infrigement (Illegallly copying). since they had it recorded, that kind of lawsuit is practiclly expensive.

I'm not sure who to call or anything, but I recommend calling Costmer Service and try from there.

I hope this helps. You're welcome.
