Lera Solar System now available

Post #1by Michael Kilderry » 10.10.2004, 03:21

Hi,

I have uploaded my first Celestia addon (the Lera Solar System) to the Celestia Motherlode. The Lera Solar System can currently be found in the creators directory under /kilderry. Currently the only file in there is Lera1.zip. I have put this here to announce the new addon and find out what people thought of it, tips for upcoming addons, and to find out which was their favourite object in this solar system.

Just today I have resubmitted the solar system to fix one of the specular textures that didn't work before on the planet Pramarr. The update should be in the creators listing by tommorrow.

Lera Solar System Now Available

Post #2by Michael Kilderry » 10.10.2004, 04:35

I have decided to put some information about the planets of the Lera System on the forum:

:mrgreen: Jovalera is an earthlike world made up mostly of water. It has large volcanic island chains (similar to Earth's Hawaiian Islands) and has two main continents. These continents experience flooding because of temperature changes during Jovalera's eccentric orbit around it's star and also tides due to the close proximity of a large moon, called Marbles.

:mrgreen: Kitherea is a venus-like world with a reasonably featureless atmosphere if it wasn't for a few large dark clouds appearing across it. It's surface is pretty featureless also but with quite a few large interesting volcanoes that seem to favour one side of the planet.

:mrgreen: Pramarr is a very unique planet. It is an electrical type planet with interesting crater and crack patterns covering a purple surface. A very intersting feature is the big green lightning bolt (you'll know it when you see it).

Try going to Jovalera and viewing Pramarr from the surface of the planet. Zoom in on the planet. Filtered through Jovalera's atmosphere, the planet looks a very nice dark blue colour.

Maybe I'm being blind, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Got a direct link to it that you can post?

First of all I would like to say that it is great that your showing interest in my planets :D and to try typing in this web address:

You should be able to find Lera1.zip there.

In other news I have created 2 asteroids for an update of this system that I am working on. They are called Quoffle and Minsaka. I am currently working on a double giant system for the Lera Star.

I would if I could, but you have to get images that are already on the internet if you want to put them in the forum, and I don't have my own site to put the images on so that they could be used in the forum.

But I'm happy for you to download the file and look at the planets in Celestia :wink:

The planet of this double-giant system I am currently doing is called Akiten. It isn't finished yet, but you can copy this into a .ssc file to see how it looks without textures - still quite nice! 8)

The only catch is you need to change Sol's name to The Lera Star in starnames.dat for it to work.

"Akiten" "The Lera Star"
{
Class "moon"
Texture "akiten_norm.jpg"
NightTexture "akiten_night.jpg"

SpecularTexture "akiten_spec.jpg"
Color [ 0.68 0.39 0.12 ]
SpecularColor [ 0.88 0.19 0.01 ]
SpecularPower 40.0
HazeColor [ 1 0 0 ]
HazeDensity 1.7
Radius 71688

BumpMap "akiten_bump.jpg"
BumpHeight 1.2

Atmosphere {
Height 500
Lower [ 0.94 0.66 0.52 ]
Upper [ 0.96 0.46 0.48 ]
Sky [ 0.98 0.26 0.44 ]
Sunset [ 1 0.5 0 ]
CloudHeight 50
CloudSpeed 365
CloudMap "akiten_clouds.png"
}

EllipticalOrbit {
Period 6.78
SemiMajorAxis 6.78
Eccentricity 0.1858
Inclination 13.6
AscendingNode 87.76
LongOfPericenter 46.89
MeanLongitude 192.97
}

RotationPeriod 9.596
Obliquity 37.8
RotationOffset 34.23

Albedo 0.038

Rings {
Inner 72000
Outer 75000
Texture "akiten_rings.png"
Color [ 0.8 0.4 0.0 ]
}
}

:mrgreen: Note: Once I have put the textures out on the internet you can put them on this planet, but the textures come with the planet anyway so it doesn't really matter.

The Lera Solar System

Post #9by Michael Kilderry » 11.10.2004, 01:11

If you unzip the lera1.zip file, I have provided a picture featuring all of the 7 objects I have made for this system (called The Lera Solar System - Part One.png). You can put this image on the motherlode site.

And also with the screenshots, I don't mind if other people take images of my solar system and put it on there site to use it in the forum. I also don't mind people updating or modifying my system or any textures I have made for it. I would just like you to say in the readme that I made the original texture/system and I would also like to be told about it. :)

Thank you for your interest :D

I appreciate all of the forum posts so far, but what I am looking for is what people who downloaded my system thought of it.

Just download Lera1.zip here:

I would just like to say that I have now registered into the Celestia forum, and that I am the 1713th person to do it.

I am currently still working on my double giant system for the Lera Star.

Big News!

Post #12by Michael C. Kilderry » 11.10.2004, 10:08

BIG NEWS!!!

My solar system has made it to the fictional planets and systems section of the Celestia Motherlode!

Michael, could you please show us some screenshot? 8O
Thank you

Andrea :D

I may have said that I can't put screenshots in the forum of my solar system, since I don't have a website to put the images on so that they could then be used on the forum. But now there is a picture of my solar system on the Celestia Motherlode! (It is included on the lera1.zip) So here it is!

I have now set up a poll where you can vote for your favourite Lera System object.

Find it at this page:

http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5960

Just remember that if you are a guest you can't vote in the Celestia forum polls :( but that's why people register in the Celestia forums :D.
