Can someone please tell if wrl files can be used with celestia 1.3.2pre4 and if so how do i use these files and where do i place them

Sorry, Celestia cannot interpret WRL VRML files.

Celestia v1.3.1 can only display spheroids and 3DS models. V1.3.2 also will support its own, much more efficient, model format.

p3c8korman24...you need to convert these to 3ds...easily done. Anim8tor(free). Or DeepExploration( not free) can do this.

selden i tried to convert the files using anim8tor. i get a message saying error opening file. i guess i need more help

Ive gotten that in 3d studio max. If the files have not been compiled using a 3d platform or if they have been modified outside the 3d platform in say notepad...they will not properly load or export...

There's also a converter program called Crossroads (Google for it) that converts lots of formats (many more than anim8or) and its free too.

Unfortunately, it screws up the surface normals, and makes the whole model into one mesh, instead of the constituent objects. They're not FUBAR however, as I proved with my VRML's of the old russian spacecraft like Veneras, Vega etc. It just takes a hell of a lot of time & effort (ie replacing the entire previous mesh with new objects in the same places) to get them back to working order.

My friend's brother, who works in PC repair. Apparently it's a pretty common expression in that field! (Around here anyway..!)

Strange indeed... I heard it first over thirty years ago. I never heard it outside of the USMC again until this topic came up.

Believe me, there were plenty of FUBARs at the construction company I used to work for, before it went bust
