Hi all, i mistakely send the message below in the Celestia Development about 1 week ago, so today i decide to rewrite or transfer it here because i am sure that (like me) i don't read or visit the development forum to find textures.. All the best.. (and sorry for any typo i have done!..)

Hi all..

I was playing with the Blue Marble dds multi level1 to level5 Virtual Textures this week.. Someone send me a New York area picture last month from the internet and i try to insert it in Celestia... Lucky me i find on the net a satellite picture that show a bigger area around NewYork.. So i try doing a couple of level and well, it work very fine for me.. Strangely i was surprise and happy to be able to make 2048x2048 tile in size instead of 512x512 tile like for normal Blue marble earth.. (i have only a 64 megs video card) I was thinking that i have to do all the tiles in 512x512 or 130k in size.. So i was happy that Celestia can accept bigger file for bigger or sharpest image.. So for me to make for example a tile in level5 using an original big hires image.. I have bigger an original Blue Marble image by 400x and i have to resize the hires picture in height and width to match the original -borders- so it fit well for Celestia.. Anyway, in some way i save the time to find all the good tx_numbers for level10 since my level9 2048x2048 image is in hires..

Unfortunately, i don't have a ftp or something like that to host these files even if i have a web page.. My ISP is already too full.. Anyway if someone have a ftp to download more fast.. No problem.. i don't want any copyright.. If you have some place on your own ftp, just tell the link here for future download.. Thanks and enjoy!

P.S. i have also make some more about the Quebec-Montreal-Gaspe and more area.. It is another zip file.. See this photo at about 600km of distance..


P.S. Tonight, i will surely complete a last one for fun, it is a 1 and only level5 file of 2048x2048 image about Egypt and Middle-East area.. This one can be zoom until 250km for best details..


Well.. I think it will be my last one for the week or month.. I have the time to do more this week because of holiday time.. but i have time to accept any direct download..

Addon P.S. Did i say that i use the Blue Marble DDS (level1 to level5) so i guess you might need that 89megs zip file intalled for my files to work, but it can surely also work in similar multi-levels alternate texture..

P.S.2. About telling about copyright images.. I am not an expert on this so i can only tell that i use pictures that come from the web on the visibleearth.nasa.gov web site.. Hope it is enough..

Wow...these look really nice. I do have some webspace...How big are they in terms of file size? You will have to mail me (you'll need a broadband connection methinks), but if you get in touch with Chris at shatters.net he may be able to help out here.

Thanks for the info.. The Zip file for the East Cost/New York is 3,866K. Inside, files are DDS images from level 5 to 9 that fit in the Blue Marble VT add-ons.. I can't tranfer this big Zip file using an email service.. But i can -anytime- transfer them via ICQ or Yahoo messenger..

P.S. someone tell me that if my NY file if installed on Celestia 1.3.1pre9 (and below i guess), passing by the level 10 view or something, textures of earth become invisible.. Until now with Celestia release of 1.3.1-1.. All work well.. Btw, I have not try any 1.3.2pre yet but i guess my VT work well passing by that level 10 threshold....

About the Montreal/Quebec area.. another Zip file and this one is now 6,000K because i add for fun some more this weekend.. The Gaspe Peninsula, the North coast, New Brunswick and Antiscoti, Prince Edouard and Magdalen Islands.. I will surely add Newfoundland next weekend..

P.S. still using images from the visibleearth web site..

Hi.. my original NY.zip file is 4megs because my textures are 2048x2048.. But i made a special Zip file of 1.2meg and i can do this one via email but not the 4megs zip file since i need my email service to be free for normal emails..

About quality textures in this 1.2megs NY.zip file. Quality is still good in "512x512" even if my original textures for level 5 to 9 was 2048x2048 in size for details.. Only the 2 level5 file of "2048x2048" that i rezise only by 2 instead of 4.. Too keep some details to be seen at closer view..

Ok.. I have try it and your ISP return me a message telling me this (reason: 552 sorry, that message size exceeds my databytes limit).. Well, it also happens to me with 1 people.. and i don't count that i have try 2 times sending the same file to be sure..

To ALL... For now, Sorry to say that i won't try to send inside an email a 1 meg zip file or bigger.. I can't afford the lost of time doing it.. So now i really can Only send my files via "ICQ" or "Yahoo messenger".. (if naturally you are not behind a firewall!!) Also can do it via "DC++".. The last one go super well..

With bm_vtex,New York VT is not working anymore.I don?t know how to put the file if 32 k goes until level 5.I said that only a square with white lines appears.I copy the copy of the Yahoo folders to my Celestia folder.What have gone wrong?

Hi Daniel.. Me too i don't understand your little problem.. The zip file i send you was inside an email (surely not in a Yahoo folder).. So after you have install the Blue Marble VT. Just unzip my Zip file inside the folder "/extra/textures/medres/Blue Marble DDS/". Also, i don't know if you have done that, like to delete the old level 5 to 10 files that you tell me you have insert inside your "Earth" drawer or something, because may be a possible conflict if ever 2 of the same "tx_name" exist in 2 different drawers.. Not sure.. Anyway. Unless, there is a new version of the Blue Marble VT that i don't know today and that you are now using.. The Blue Marble that i use or download last September to make my files, was a Zip file of 94,380,167k..

Hi to all..

I have done again, for my pleasure, a new city for the East Cost textures or well, around the New York area.
This time i find a picture of Boston in the earthobservatory.nasa.gov web site..

So what i make for now is this..

Again i like hi-res details in my Celestia so i have done again some 2megs (2048x2028) tiles instead of
131k (512x512) but i think i wil do them all soon in 131k files.. Anyhow, the result is nice anyway..

That looks realy nice! Why don't you build a site for your addons? so that we can have access to them, and you wont need to send them separately.

Yes.. i do like to open a web site or something and offer what i have done.. For sure i can't use my own web sites because they are already to crowded.. If or when i know that i can use those images i get from (i guess) Nasa web sites or else and that i can use a Good free web server (like over 5 gig of free bandwith, banner i don't mind) i will surely do a web page for the fun of it..
