Missing stars for extrasolar planets

Post #1by granthutchison » 13.01.2004, 23:00

We talked about this a while ago in the forum.
There are three extrasolar planets listed in extrasolar.ssc which orbit stars that aren't present in Celestia's default stars.dat file because they're not in the Hipparcos catalogue. Two of these stars are also absent from Pascal's enlarged stars.dat add-on. So there's no way to see these particular extrasolars in Celestia without adding their parent stars by hand - a shame, since one of them is a transiter: OGLE-TR-56.
I've written a couple of tiny stc files that add the necessary stars to your Celestia installation - one file to use if you have the default stars.dat, the other to use if you have one of Pascal's expanded stars.dat files installed. Selden is kindly hosting them at http://www.lns.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/hutchison/missing-stars.html
