Atlantis

Hello all...I'm in the process of modelling 'Atlantis' to link up with Orions new textured 'Mir'.
Image

The wing markings are not correct...the flag needs to move to the port wing along with 'USA' above it and the classic NASA logo needs to appear above 'Atlantis'. I will try these myself but I'm not confident!. Thanks to TERRIER for the 'Atlantis' logos btw.

I need to add a little more detail to the 'SpaceLab' and then I may upload the model as is.

Regards...bh.

Does anyone have a good drawing of the payload config for this mission? I think I've mounted 'SpaceLab' too close to the rear bulkhead...there maybe another pallet behind this structure. Sorry. I trawled through the available pics on google but detailed pics are hard to track down.

Regards...bh.

bh,

did you see this one?
Image
(this links to a higher-res version)

It seems to be showing both the spacelab and the Mir docking assembly braced in the payload bay for STS-71.
A detailed caption is at http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/shuttle/missions/sts-71/images/captions/KSC-95EC-0544.html

And here's a tiny one (on CNN.com) of the Atlantis pulling away from Mir during a later mission:

Hello bh

Yep, the top image that Seldon has shown is probably about the best close up pic you're going to get.

Here's a couple of more links showing pictures taken during the mission, which may also be of some help.

Selden...thanks...yes I already have those...its what's behind the SpaceLab module thats bugging me now.

TERRIER...thanks for the links. There were some pics I didn't have...still not clear enough. I need a diagram or similar...I will keep looking.
It would be a pity to have to make something up!

Thanks for that ObiterFan...still not quite detailed enough...I think I should add something behind the SpaceLab module. I will investigate further.

I will carry on with this version of 'Atlantis' even if the wing markings are wrong! (What!). I know...cop out city.

I've Orions excellent textured 'Mir' and I just want to put the whole thing together and see what happens.

I've got some detail to go behind the Spacelab module...just a guess here but it fills space up for those of you who like to zoom in on these.

Orion has some really nice Soyuz models but I've lost him for the moment...so I will put in some 'dummy' modules for effect!...they won't be that bad...after a few beers! ESB of course.

Hope to get this done over the weekend.

Regards...bh.

Bob:

Since Orion has mysteriously vanished from the forum and his website is down, could you please post his Mir model 3ds and textures that you mention in this thread? I don't have them and your comments that they look great are wetting my appetite for more detail than the simple Mir model that I have from a year ago. If you don't have a good place to post them, I'll put them on my website if you e-mail them to me.

Thanks

:)

Frank,
Seems to me that is the model i spoke about in my congratulations for the Activities. (Spacecrafts activity)
A model translated from Orbiter, isn't it?

Frank...I don't know what to say...Orions model has completely disappeared from my system!

As his site is down I've mailed him to see if he'll post me another. I think I may have confused it with an older Mir model and deleted the wrong one. I tend to have all my models in their own folders so I've lost the zip too!!

Sorry...Jeam I think may also be able to help here?

I really must get a grip!

Can anyone mail me or host Orions Mir with textures...I won't get Atlantis/Mir done without it!

BH,
Is the textured model that i've just hosted on a page (see link in my another message) not the good one?

bh

I've got the MIR model which you are talking about, so I'll email it to you.
I'm not working this weekend, so I'll also have a go at modelling the NASA logo for Atlantis.

Thanks guys:

I got the model. Andrea Pelloni also sent me a copy via e-mail. I will merge it into my spacecraft downloads on my Educational Activity website, so that it is updated in the future.

Jeam...sorry...I completely missed your previous post! Many apologies and many thanks to all of you for retreiving this model.

I got a busy weekend coming up so I probably wont have time to finish the model...later in the week perhaps.

More news on this model...TERRIER has sent me a logo pack...with this and Orions model it will be one of the best shuttle releases so far!

I will make 'Atlantis' available as a model in it's own right...probably with arm extended for the 'Magellan' launch.

I will make this a priority for the coming week. Probably the last shuttle release as I've read that NASA are retiring the fleet!

I am still looking for an alternative...if my modelling skills get better I will have a go at this.

We need a feasable craft to go with Orions complete ISS model....I hear the station is leaking!!!

What a mess...

If you think about it we've come some way. We started this project when 'Columbia' was in orbit! Last February!

Thanks to all...bh.
