Northern Patagonia VT

Hi all,

I have made a virtual texture of the region around my city, in northern Patagonia. It works as levels 6 to 10 with the Blue Marble virtual textures. I prepared it for the original Blue Marble, the one shown bellow, the colors of which many people do not like, and for the one prepared by Don as well. I do not have space to make it available, but here are a few snapshots for you to see the place and its location. The city is Bariloche, you can see it near the center, on the south coast of the big lake, in the third picture. To the right (east) the airport is also clearly seen. The ski slopes are also seen...

Kind regards,

Guillermo

Nice :)

I am curious, where did you get the data from?

Yes, nice work Guillermo,
The close up detail looks really good, and terrain-wise it seems to fit very well. I'm wondering if you've used any bumpmapping and specular textures too?

I also assume your VT is in DDS format?

The only problem appears with the lighter colouring, which highlights this VT area a little too well!

Hi, Harald. I got the images from the Argentine Agency of Space Activiies, years ago. Is a set of 36 square gifs, 1200 pixels per side each. It's the only thing I have of Argentina at high resolution.

Hi, TERRIER. Actually, I downsized those images to 800x600 to decrease the load in the forum. Yes, they look very realistic. I used neiher bumpmapping nor specular, since my video doesn't seem to support them . (Intel built-in Extreme Graphics, 64MB on a 1GB system.) The relief is shading in the original images.

That's right. I made the whole Blue Marble VT with a script of my own, then I composed the high resolution image and virtualized it. All in tiff, afterwards converted to dds (dxt1c).

Yes, it's a little different from the Blue Marble. But I live here and I tell you that the colors are more accurate than those of the BM. Oh, I painted the lakes by hand, they were black in the original images, but they have the colors I used (at least the biggest ones).

Cheers,

Guillermo
