Heavy HST model ready to optimization
Hi, I have a BIG model of the HST (9,54 Mb). This beautiful model makes that Celestia performs like an slideshow (2/5 fps.)
I will try to optimize and texturize it, there's a hard work to do.
Regards.

A tip on how to optimize an 3D model that uses cylinders: I don't know which 3D program you use but, for cylinders I recommend to set the Latitudal setting to 1 and the Longitudal setting to 24 or more. This will give you an nice low-res cylinder. This should improve the FPS since the HST is mostly cylindrical in shape.
Regards and nice model

Today Saturday I've worked a bit on the model, I've added the solar panel textures and I've working also on the size optimization.

Orion Nebula, your HST is very very beautiful , but I think that the solar panels are not of the correct size .
In the image of the real HST you put as a link, where the solar panels are opened along the HST length, it's evident that their length is close to the full HST length, while in your screenshots they seem very shorter .
Am I right, or it's a sigth angle problem ?
Thank you for your job .
Andrea

Andrea,
The large solar cell arrays were replaced by smaller, more efficient arrays in March of last year, during STS-109, the most recent HST servicing mission (3B). See http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts109/020304fd4/
and http://hubble.nasa.gov/servicing-missions/sm3b.html

Thank you Selden, now it's clear .
I was misplaced by the Orion Nebula link .

This is a real shame, 'cos I'd really like to download the ISS models.

Hi, TERRIER: 'course i've get(got?) them (for little screenshots in my catalogue-ISS work-in-progress page). My install is personnalized (ie: all the files are organized in a same directory/subdirectories, because lot of these superb models use same textures) but i must have the original 12 zips somewhere. (And the old 'Complete 2006 ISS' One, but the fabulous Bh complete Model w Endeavour is more acurate, isn't it?)
How can i send you those?
Do not someone (Bh?) try a ISS-central page like the Shuttle one? It would be great.

No worries at the moment, I'll wait and see if they become 'available' again.
I have bh's final ISS / Endeavour model and should the ISS models not appear, I could do my own progressive ISS models from this.
Then to save me a job, all I'd need is the ssc's if someone could e-mail me them!
regards
