Shuttle Endeavour

Thanks to TERRIER...a new addition...lots of new detailing here.

You can try it here:
http://www.berasan.com/celestia/endeavour.zip
It's around 350kb.

I'm not sure what radiator config it should have...OrbiterFan?

Also I might try to add the 'grab handles' to the more recent models I've posted. Please put all the textures in your Celestia/medres directory...there is is a new 'thrusters' texture...it's still not quite there but it's better!

Many regards...bh.

For on-orbit configs the radiators should be in split-version, where the front ones is tilted up 35.5 degrees. You may use the radiators from Discovery. I'm right now working on to get the ODS to its current location in payload bay. And when you do Columbia, don't forget the SILTS pod on top of the vertical tail. And also add the black tiles on the upper section on the wings.

Phew...I think I may take a break on these for now...will try to add the split radiators on this though...thanks OrbiterFan.

Nice to see the grab handles being used, but they do increase the file size quite abit :(

bh / OrbiterFan / or Anyone Else!
How much do you know about the KU Band Antenna, and do you reckon this should be added to the model ?

KU band antenna assembly is 7 feet long and 1 foot deep. It is used for hi-rate telemetry and video downlink to Mission Control. It sends the data to an Tracking and Data Relay Satellite(TDRS) that is in a geosynchronous orbit.

Sorry everybody...I didn't complete my preflight checks. TERRIER has spotted some problems with the arm mounting points which, hopefully, I've corrected.

Should be ok now...

Nice works, really.
:D
May i a suggestion?
I'm don't remenber what a great Higgins IUS addon could be used w Endeavour (Ulysses was the STS-41 Discovery mission, no?) but HTS or ISS seems to me good prime locations for the Endeavour Shuttle, don't they (cf report missions) ?

bh,

Looks great!

One thing- I notice that you're still using my old NASA logo on the Shuttle wing. You should *upgrade* to the newer version I made! It looks WAAAY better... :D

(This is exactly the kind of thing I made it for btw!)

Good point Jeam...I really don't know if Endeavour launched any of these probes...I just wanted to finish the model! I will leave it to you to put the model in the correct scenario...or make one up for it.

Jeam Tag has made a good point about using Endeavour to link up with the ISS instead of Discovery. It has carried out this mission on several occasions (STS 108 from 5-Dec-01 to 17-Dec-01 being one example).

Instead you can use Discovery with the Canadarm deployed to launch Ulysses.

A simple solution would be to change the name logo's around for these two particular shuttles. (This also saves me trying to find AND model a satellite for Endevour to deploy, which I was going to do!) ALSO DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE THE 3DS MODEL FILE NAME FOR EACH MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for interest here's my ssc code for the shuttle deployments that we have so far.

Code: Select all

"Discovery" "Sol/Earth"
{
Class "spacecraft"
Mesh "orbdiscovery.3ds"
Radius 0.02

EllipticalOrbit {
 Period          0.069
   SemiMajorAxis   6700
   Inclination     28.45
}
   Orientation     [90 0 0 1]
   RotationOffset  -90
   Obliquity       28.45
}

"Atlantis 4-May-89" "Sol/Earth"
{

   PrecessionRate       5217.3913
}

"Ulysses Launch 6-Oct-90" "Sol/Earth/Discovery"

   PrecessionRate       5217.3913
}

"Galileo Launch" "Sol/Earth/Atlantis 18-Oct-89"
{
Class "spacecraft"

Radius 0.007

Beginning 2447817.5
Ending 2447818.49

EllipticalOrbit {
   Period          0.069

   RotationPeriod       0.001
   Obliquity            90
   EquatorAscendingNode 270
   PrecessionRate       5217.3913
}

These all hopefully have the correct inclinations to their orbits.

The Discovery model stays in Celestia permanently for viewing at any time while the other examples you will have to go to the correct dates to view them.

The atlantis models, Magellan, Galileo, and Ulysses IUS models are from Jacks site http://homepage.eircom.net/~jackcelestia/

TERRIER...I was going to model a satellite for Endeavour....it would look great using the present ssc! I really don't undestand the problem here.

"Endeavour" "Sol/Earth"
{
Class "spacecraft"
Mesh "endeavour.3ds"
Radius 0.02

EllipticalOrbit {
Period 0.069
SemiMajorAxis 6700
Inclination 30
}
Orientation [90 0 0 1]
RotationOffset -90
Obliquity 30
}

"satellite" "Sol/Earth/Endeavour"
{
Class "spacecraft"
Mesh "satellite.3ds"
Radius 0.005

EllipticalOrbit {
Period 0.069
SemiMajorAxis 0.02
}
RotationPeriod 0.01
Obliquity 90
EquatorAscendingNode 270
PrecessionRate 5217.3913
}

I will post a 'generic' satellite model later...sometime tomorrow. In future I will just post the model...

Honestly!!

Satellite model coming later today...TERRIER...I did mention (probably in another thread) that my shuttle programme was in crisis...not unlike reality!...It's just that I've got so many variants of the model...not just at different orientations but sizes as well.

When I get time I will sit down and try to put them into some sort of order!

Regards...bh.

Apologies for shouting, hope I haven't been sent to the doghouse!

BTW I've nearly finished a KU band antenna.

It's ok...I've just got to get a bit more organised...
Image

It's not a real satellite...sorry, but I bet there are some that look a bit like this one! Apologies to Jack...but I wanted something quick!

You can use this ssc if you want...

"Endeavour" "Sol/Earth"
{
Class "spacecraft"
Mesh "endeavour.3ds"
Radius 0.02

EllipticalOrbit {
Period 0.069
SemiMajorAxis 6700
Inclination 30
}
Orientation [90 0 0 1]
RotationOffset -90
Obliquity 30
}

"Satellite deployment" "Sol/Earth/Endeavour"
{
Class "spacecraft"
Mesh "satgeneric.3ds"
Radius 0.003

EllipticalOrbit {
Period 0.069
SemiMajorAxis 0.02
}
RotationPeriod 0.01
Obliquity 90
EquatorAscendingNode 270
PrecessionRate 5217.3913
}

It's the same as the probe luanch ssc. Sorry.

Try it here:

It is a good idea, bh, thanks.
There are, too, little sats models by Thomas Guilpain, somewhere in add-ons sites, no?
I read, quickly, http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/shuttle/resources/orbiters/endeavour.htmlthat Endeavour has carried a lot of spacelabs, no probe to launch?
---> For Jack: the STS-72 mission captures and returns earth a nice japanese sat http://www.isas.ac.jp/E/enterp/missions/complate/sfu.html :wink:

And, Bh: the Endeavour encounters with Celestia modeled objects were
HST (fly STS-61 12/02/93) Mir (STS-89 1/22/98 ) and, of Course, the work-in-progress ISS: flies STS-88, 97, 100, 101...
If it can help to organize the model fleet...

Jeam,
waiting for a little before refresh my Shuttle page(s):
I've just got to get a bit more organised... :wink:

Thanks Jeam...the new Discovery/Ulysses launch ssc is the same as the one I've used here...so I think this one will need changing or there will be a crash. Or swap Endeavour for Discovery...or swap Ulysses for the satellite...or just move it into a higher orbit...or...
