Shuttle Discovery

Post #1by Guest » 14.09.2003, 13:33

Thanks to TERRIER we now have 'Discovery' added to the fleet, along with Jack's 'Atlantis', just two (three?) more to go.

Are you forgetting Challenger? With Jack's Atlantis and now Discovery there's three more to model. Columbia, Endeavour and Challenger. The question is: Is it worth modelling Enterprise which was only used for atmospheric testing?

Yes...I was forgetting about Enterprise and Columbia. I might have a go at Jacks 'doors closed' version for Columbia...I will have to add the texures and other details. I tried to close the doors on my present models but they won't shut properly!

Isn't there already a Columbia shuttle model available by Jens?

I reckon Endeavour should be next!

Oops!
Hello Folks, i'm sorry but i am a little lost.
I want to update the Shuttle page in my Little catalogue...
(You can see the old page here:)
http://jeam.tag.free.fr/CELESTIAhtml/CelestiaAddons-Spacecrafts4
So,
What is know avaible (updated releases) and who make what exactly?(I don't want write mistakes!) in the shuttle fleet?

- Columbia: Jens & Hundley, pack open/closed ?
- Atlantis: Hundley, other by Higgins (pack, open/closed)?
- Discovery: Terrier
- Shuttle (witch one?) panels open, nicely textured (Hundley, canadarm by Terrier) ?
- Docked Shuttle: ISS ,twice & Mir (Hundley) ?
- Launch configurations: Darkmiss, other by Higgins(Atlantis pack) ?
Is it correct, have i forgotten somethings?

(Hmmm, sorry: silly question, Bh: your (nice! cf your screenshot) 'orbiteriss' is alone: how can we place it with ISS?)

Sorry :? i try to understand :lol:

Yes...the shuttle fleet seems to be running away with itself at the moment...this is because the model keeps evolving. The latest update is the Discovery model. I'm presently using three variants of this model with different orientations!

The shuttle /ISS model (see thread) is all one model.

The shuttle/Mir model should be described as the 'Discovery' fly around - I've yet to rework the latest model into this scenario.

The shuttle/Mir model will evolve into Antlantis/Mir docked, when I've carried out the mods to mir and sorted out the docking module (OrbiterFan?)

I hope this clears things up a bit.

Jeam Tag none of the models where by me.
I converted a model from a different format, and hosted it.

But since bh and Jack Higgins have put a lot of effort into updated them, far beyond the model I converted.
I have taken the older model down from my site.
CPU- Intel Pentium Core 2 Quad ,2.40GHz
RAM- 2Gb 1066MHz DDR2
Motherboard- Gigabyte P35 DQ6
Video Card- Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS + 640Mb
Hard Drives- 2 SATA Raptor 10000rpm 150GB
OS- Windows Vista Home Premium 32

My earthwater web page will be replaced by a shuttle page, as the new fanastic Earth textures have sorted that one out.

From there you will be able to get all the various versions that apply to your own scenarios involving this spacecraft.

Oh, Paul, i've just notice, for example, a very interresting launch configuration that you have presented, don't you? It seems to me that this must be interest Celestia project, no?! Is this pretty stuff leaving out?

This is my love against Chris' Celestia: the perpetual improvement, wih all you, creators, thanks! [A Day, hope, when i could do, i try to design some stuffs... ] for the moment :cry: i just can try an accurate listing of what all you make... and i want to resume, so honestly as possible, what is avaible...

Sure!, Bh I'll wait for a little moment before update my little notices, to accurate all links about Shuttles...

And: I see the docking pb ['Orbiter fan': 'you are needed', he he...] of Course: in 'Orbiter', this stuff (Docking!) is essential.. but this thread seems turn in a great way w your works: enjoy and congratulations for your work-in-progress stuff with this 'silly' details :roll: 8)
I hope this clears things up a bit. Regards...bh.[/

Thanks you, really, bh. Have a good time to perform your great work.
(Post Scriptum: I see in the last 'Discovery' files, the 'shuttle2.jpg' file that the 'mirorb.3ds' can't find, because i don't know where find this one before! the other textures was these of your great texturing shuttle that your offert to us some weeks ago, ok?)
Jeam: as usual, sorry for my bad english speaking.. !

OK. You can download my modified Discovery here:http://members.lycos.co.uk/orbiterfan2/Celestia/
Click on the Discovery.zip file.

It has the following changes:
-Radiators now seperated into two pieces. One aft, one forward. And the forward one is tilted up 35.5 degrees into the deployed position.
-Added the Orbiter Docking System.
-Changed the material on RCC leading edges on the wings. They're now more dark-greyish.

Nice work OrbiterFan

I've just e-mailed a slightly modified Canadarm to bh, which should allow it to be shown in its stowed or deployed position more easily.

When stowed, the whole Canadarm and supports swing in by 15.7 degrees from the vertical, while in deployment the whole unit swings out by 15.7 degrees.

It is currently in the mid-way position :wink:

OrbiterFan and TERRIER...you've really made this model come to life...I'm staggered. Many thanks for your efforts.

TERRIER...sorry about stuff going slightly askew...I got a bit tired and get easily obsessed. With the shuttle especially!!

I'll get on with the Mir mods, but there's going to be loads more scenarios thanks to you two!

Watch this space...

Many regards...bh.

chrisr...sorry about that. My shuttle programme is in crisis at the moment...I've so many variants of this model I'm beginning to lose track of them...I will sort them out when I've got my shuttle page working. Hopefully all models will have an ssc to go with them...of course you can write your own if you want.

Here's a quick fix, just so you can view the model...

"Hubble" "Sol/Earth"
{
Class "spacecraft"
Mesh "hubble.3ds"
Radius 0.007
Beginning 2448007

EllipticalOrbit {
Period 0.06903
SemiMajorAxis 6767
Eccentricity 0.0012082
Inclination 28.4675
AscendingNode 51.0100
ArgOfPericenter 27.0378
MeanAnomaly 333.0836
Epoch 2452028.18381755
}

Albedo 0.10
}

"Shuttle" "Sol/Earth/Hubble"
{
Class "spacecraft"
Mesh "orbdiscovery.3ds"
Radius 0.020

EllipticalOrbit
{
Period 1.1
SemiMajorAxis 0.05
Eccentricity 0.01
Inclination 93.1
}

Albedo 0.10
}

The model is not in the correct alignment for this scenario...but at least you will be able to see it! Also it would not be carrying the ODS.

OrbiterFan...when does the shuttle use the 'split' radiator config? this will help me apply the model to more realistic situations.

Regards...bh.

About 2.5 hrs after launch the radiators are deployed to provide on-orbit cooling. There are two pairs of radiator on each door. One deployable forward pair and one fixed pair. Before the shuttle was cooled by the flash evaporator systems.
