Zond 3

Post #1by JackHiggins » 29.08.2003, 22:57

Hey all

This really will be my final proper addon for some time...

It's Zond 3! Launched in 1965, it was originally intended to fly past mars in the 1964 launch window (Along with Zond 2). However, the opportunity to launch passed, and it was instead used in 1965 as a test vehicle for future interplanetary missions by the USSR. It flew past the moon, and took pictures of the far side. However, what set it apart from any other spacecraft of it's time, was that it was carrying an experimental ion engine. An ION ENGINE - in 1965!! :D (And you all thought Deep Space 1 was the first ion powered craft I bet!! :D ) The soviets were really thinkg ahead it seems- unfortunately they don't seem to have used this propulsion on any other craft after that, which seems a bit thick.

You can download the Zond 3 model & xyz trajectory (which, again, is from the NSSDC, and so not very accurate) from the spacecraft page on my website http://homepage.eircom.net/~jackcelestia/

Have a look at some screenshots first though...

Hello Jack...fantastic...as usual. I don't think I'll be working on models for a while... I need to learn alot more about 3d stuff.

I'm still hooked on the shuttle...it's been an obsession for me and I've really enjoyed it!

I might take a break for a while and try to get my Spitfire working again...bloody dlls!

Look out for Don's new model sometime soon...

Regards to everyone...bh.

Cool! 8)

That's the great thing about these net fora (see, not "forums" anymore :) !) you have no idea what peoples backgrounds etc are, unless they choose to tell you- so can't judge someone by where they're from etc, only by the quality of their work or arguments!

Now how profound is that...

Spitfire pics look good too- i'm intrigued... :)

Our school has some mad idea that going back a few days earlier, and doing nothing, will give us a head start each year.
