Shenzhou V (Chinese manned spacecraft) model

Post #1by JackHiggins » 27.07.2003, 23:23

Hey all

We all know that China Image plan to launch their first man into space in october- well... I've made a model of their Shenzhou V spacecraft! It's based on pics already available publicly on the net so they can't come after me for sharing secret info or anything... :)

You can download from the spacecraft page on my site http://homepage.eircom.net/~jackcelestia/ (it comes with a fictional ssc file) but check out some of the screenshots first...

Well they bought a Soyuz in the mid-1990s, but apparently this new craft is 13% bigger than the russian version & can stay up for 20 days- (That's just the manned part!) And the orbital module can be left up for a year or so with experiments running! Also it can generate much more electricity than the Soyuz, and it's panels can be rotated to catch the sun more effectively... That could all hype by the Chinese but it sounds pretty advanced to me!!

Yes, and i'm Neil Armstrong :D

Great model again Jack, any idea what the Chinese writing say's?

I'm also wondering if there are any people from China or more likely Hong Kong who are using Celestia?

You can thank http://www.astronautix.com for the pics... Apparently (I just can't remember at the moment) the chinese had a big exhibition last year & had a 1:40 scale model of their Shenzhou craft at it. We probably won't hear any more about it until some time in mid-october when we get a "breaking news" message on the TV:
China announces succesful launch of manned spacecraft
Much like the soviets did in the early days... They're certainly not going to have the world's press watching the launch live in case it explodes on the pad, & embarrasses them on the world stage...

Isn't it great that they're so predictable?

Darkmiss wrote:Japan Has all the money, and Technology galore.

Their space program constantly stirs up public apathy- if no-one's interested, then the government aren't going to bother investing much in it... I can't see why no-one's interested though- example- this year: first mission to Mars (Nozomi), first EVER mission to sample an asteroid (MUSES-C, now called Hagosoto or something), first large scale automated production of space products (earlier this year)... That's pretty good for a relatively small country!!

TERRIER wrote:Great model again Jack, any idea what the Chinese writing say's?
I wouldn't spend 45 minutes making the mesh for that Mandarin text without finding out what it means first!! Surprisingly, it means "Shenzhou"... That means "sunrise" in Mandarin, I think...

There's DEFINITELY at least one from Hong Kong, i've seen him post a few times... (Can't remember his name right now)

Didn't the chinese authorities ban access to any US I.P. addresses last year (shatters.net being the important one here...)? Or was that just from internet cafes? Or has it been lifted now...?

divine_vessel (or should I call you Shenzhou?!)

You're right- they did ban all US ip's (after the spy plane thing, wasn't it..?) but guess it must have been removed recently! Actually I have been away, dislocating my shoulder, skiing, among other things... :)

The site is definitely up though - try it again in a few days maybe! I'm in ireland in any case, so shouldn't be any diplomatic problems etc...

The spy plane thing is nearly three year ago(the same year of 911,right?)
even at that time .They didn't ban US ip.But in the university,we use a low
cost network called "education network" the cost of using it is very cheap but can't visit foreign web site.this is the truth.
and I'm a new user of celestia.I'm wondering how to run the xyz file in celestia.
Happy New year :D Jack

Hello Guest

To use an XYZ file

1: place the ???.XYZ file in to your DATA folder of Celestia
2: add the ???.XYZ info into the ssc file of the model you are using

EG

Code: Select all

SampledOrbit   "???..xyz"

Mr TERRIER, your Chinese is good(maybe it's the work of "stardic"(a dictionary software, also a freeware.the creator of it is Chinese ,too) .I just have a little confuse with the quote.Does it mean"good luck with space object."?

just try!
祝: 春节快乐。万事如意!

I think you may need an additional windows character set. Go into add/remove programs, and look for language support. Tick on any that say "Chinese" or "East Asian" etc- otherwise you'll need to get an update from windows update http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Ma Hong Yam
Thank you for your kind words. It also appears that you have said that you can understand English but can't use English to write, and that you are not very pleased about this! Well maybe the language converter website that I have been using may help? It is one that has been mentioned on the forum, a few times before;

http://www.systransoft.com/

It allows for, Traditional Chinese / English, and the translation I used, Simplified Chinese / English. Plus there are quite a few other languages too. This should answer divine_vessel's question on what translator I've been using.

Mr divine_vessel !!!

Cheers!, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that my Chinese is good! The first thing I meant to say was "A big Yorkshire welcome to Celestia", I don't know if it made any sense in Chinese? I was suprised the translator accepted this statement and gave all the words back in Chinese - even the word Yorkshire!

The second statement was a simple "Good luck to the space programme!"

Maxim
I hope you are now able to read the Chinese characters?
As Jack said, you need to have these character sets available within your op-system. If you're using XP, then you can check by going into CONTROL PANEL, selecting REGIONAL & LANGUAGE OPTIONS, then select the ADVANCED option, and look at the list of languagues in the CODE PAGE CONVERSION TABLES. I have many languages available,(most perhaps from my original Windows installation, and perhaps more from various updates and interaction with foreign languages ?).Most of these have been checked off. I assume this has happened automatically as I've encountered the languages? Anyway, in amongst this long list of languages, I have a few checked off versions of 'Simplified Chinese' which I have been using in this post.

regards to all,
TERRIER
