New Space Shuttle Atlantis models(Launch, c.b.d open/closed)

Post #1by JackHiggins » 11.06.2003, 23:59

Hey all

Here's something i've been working on for one of the NASA activities! It's a reworked, improved, texturised Shuttle Atlantis model, and comes in 3 versions! (The file size is smaller than before too!)

Download from http://homepage.eircom.net/~jackcelestia/ (number 23 in spacecraft) but here are some screenshots first...

The zip file also inludes an ssc to position the launch model at the location of the Kennedy Space Center in Florida!

These models were reworked from bh's original shuttle Columbia models, and the wing textures are from Jens' Columbia model. The idea to actually do these models was Frank's (fsgregs) for the NASA activities.

Enjoy!

Jack, they are just beautiful. Celestia is becoming so close to reality, I will start getting space sickness and have to take out crash insurance. Thanks for this incredible effort.

:D :D :D :D

Great! And a good idea: One of them is completing opportunely your Magellan and Galileo launch models :D

But, just a question: The launch model configuration seems flying horizontaly ?!
Thanks again for your work, Jack.

Jack, Great work! I've been developing my own Atlantis model for Celestia. However, I don't think I'm as motivated to complete it now that you've uploaded a quite detailed and accurate model! You beat me to it! :)

Hey thanks everyone! :D

That's strange it works ok for me... Anyone else have this problem? Try adding or subtracting 90 from RotationOffset, for the Atlantis section..? :?

Simply Stunning

Any chance you could add Discovery and Endeavour names ?

-------------------------

Update:
I am getting the same problem with the launch code too

the shuttle is sitting flat on the earth surface :(

Didn't modify anything, i just poped the ssc file into the extras directory
and run the program.

Hello Jack...hello all. I've done a few mods on this model. It's a matter of taste, but I find the model to dirty.... I've added the double doors and some new textures for these.

I've been doing a bit more work on this one:

More work to do on the cargo bay interior...should be ready by the weekend. The waves will be available for you guys to try out as well!

Regards...bh.

Hello Jack,

im not understand all the directives for .ssc files, but here's what i can see with your
Orientation [28.55 1 0 0]
RotationOffset 110

With add 90 from RotationOffset i obtain the second shot, the shuttle just turns like this (w substracting, its the same stuff, on the other side):

But, with changing
Orientation [-62.55 1 0 0]

It now takes place vertically:

I've added Atlantis in my little catalogue

I've done a bit more reworking of this model and this version is now available for download (around 250ks zipped).

I'm having trouble texturising the rear cargo bay wall, I'm not sure why...
The model could also do with an improved manipulator arm, I don't know if anyone would like to have a go at this.

It's white!!! Get it here:

As you said yourself, it's a matter of taste, but your new textures are nice too!

I had problems with the rear cargo door too- don't know why either.. I couldn't be bothered making a new part though so I just left it...

I'm working on a little something else to go together with the shuttle launch model- I think you'll all be quite impressed! Won't say anything more- just yet...

Add the "Enterprise" too, the first Shuttle (never gone abroad).
What am I doing? Ah, nothing much. Just laying on my bed, watching the stars, and sky, and keep asking myself: 'Where the Hell is my Roof?'.

Does anybody know, was the Enterprise significantly different from proper orbital shuttles, apart from that strange looking tail cone...? Otherwise it'd be pretty easy to model..

We have got a very efficient individual (designated as "Darkmiss") on these forums... Highly Assimilative.

Additional info on Enterprise (how it got it's name):

"When the new space shuttle program was announced by NASA, Star Trek fans united, and petitions poured into NASA's Washington offices. By September there are over 400,000 letters counted, and NASA relented. In the ceremony in September 1976, shuttle Enterprise was unveiled with all the original Star Trek cast in attendance."
What am I doing? Ah, nothing much. Just laying on my bed, watching the stars, and sky, and keep asking myself: 'Where the Hell is my Roof?'.

It would "Boldly Go Where No Shuttle Has Gone Before"...

I need a pic of the ingress/egress hatch on the port side...I would like to add this to the model...anyone? also a more detailed pic of the forward and rear cargo bay walls.
