Astroboy, your new nebula is very very nice, as usual.
My celestia has been greatly improved (nebula speaking) since you've decided to make some add-ons.
I would be very disappointed if you couldn't maintain your "2 nebulas per week"...
My sky is going to be very populated, thanks to you !

another great nebula addon, Works great, Thank you
AstroBoy
The contoured Mesh is very good.
But could i ask you a big favour.
Would i be asking to much, to ask you to make the texture a bit more transparent.
It just look as though it needs to be a bit more see through than it is.
especially the middle blue part.
Please.....

Paul,
Your eyes are playing tricks on you
Think of it as a cup. The greenish parts are around the lip.
The bright blue is on the inside, where the cup of gases is reflecting the light of very bright O-class stars back toward you. The stars are inside (and in front of) the cup, not behind it.
A dark absorption nebula surrounds it on all sides.

I was wondering, of course i don't want to doubt at your skills but is it really big enough cuz the orion nebula and others are visible from earth easily. The nebulae you made require a lot of zooming in with field of view. I dunno, maybe you can make em a bit more visible like the orion nebula. Of course only if that's what it would look like for real.
I could be wrong of course.

For other reasons, I've done some careful alignments of the NOAO image of the Eagle Nebula against Celestia's stars. Here are the results.
This shows the four alignment stars visible in Celestia with no add-ons.
This shows my alignment of the NOAO picture.
And this shows AstroBoy's model compared to the alignment stars. It's offset slightly, but the size looks just right.
All of these snapshots were taken from precisely the same point of view:
cel://Follow/Sol:Jupiter:Io/2003-05-18T20:00:04.12958?x=Y1/8HA03gKx7DA&y=lpKEintQmkIB&z=lN6x+a28T0PL/////////w&ow=0.040347&ox=-0.003442&oy=0.995725&oz=-0.083020&fov=0.677541&ts=1.000000&rf=1243428&lm=-1474560000<d=0&rf=66119&lm=0
The green marks were added "in post production" to indicate the four alignment stars that are visible when you've turned down Celestia's limiting magnitude as far as it'll go, making the stars as bright as possible.
My initial alignment was done using Pascal's database of 2 million stars as well as pictures of the surrounding region, so there's no chance of the stars shown here being misidentified
Footnote to Chris: this is one of those cases where being able to toggle among different Nebula textures would be very useful. Quite often I'd like to effectively turn one object off and on again while other Deep Sky objects stay visible -- essentially doing a "blink comparison". One way to do this is to have some of the textures be transparent.
Still a myth...

I am busy for the moment so I have less time for celestia. In the future the Eagle nebula position will be corrected and a mirror site with an US provider will be opened by the and of the month. So Vicware be patient, you will soon be able to get them all.

Gest user above is AstroBoy
By the way, selden could you share your modification in RA and DEC of the eagle nebula because I don't have time to correct them for the moment and by the way, those who already have the add-on will not have to re-download it.
Thank for your help, you're welcome !

AstroBoy,
Sorry: I should have included them. They aren't exactly right for your model, since it's a different shape from my billboard, but it is closer to the right position.
Code: Select all
Nebula "Eagle Nebula"
{
Mesh "m16.3ds"
Radius 46
RA 18.31637
Dec -13.849
Distance 7000
}
For those who'd like to try twiddling the RA and Dec coordinates themselves, the two central stars should be on either side of the main pillar. Here's a closeup.
