Delta Trianguli -- Announcements, Updates, Feedback, Etc.

My Delta Trianguli addon on the Motherlode has gone on much too long without a thread here, so I'm posting it now.

In this thread, I will request advice, post support for anyone who has questions or needs help (to the best of my ability), and I am open to feedback and comments. I will also post upcoming versions that may or may not be eventually uploaded to the Motherlode, depending on the feedback I recieve.

This OP will also host two links, one to the add-on page on the Celestia Motherlode, and the other to my website, where I will post updates; mainly to receive feedback before uploading it to the Motherlode.

Here are the links:

The add on available at my site:
http://www.freewebs.com/theplutonianempire/deltri.zip

The version available on the Celestia Motherlode:
http://celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/s ... on_id=1323

(Yes, I do realize I need to create my own textures. :? I intend to get around to it eventually, although it is becoming extremely frustrating to the point where I just might give up.)

I have uploaded a new update to the Motherlode. Now waiting for the admins to decide on it.

Unfortunately, I can't host it on my own site because the filesize now exceeds the free space limitations on Webs.com.

Can you tell us where do you find your stellar data ?

I used this system for Draylon (June 2011) in Star Trek universe
and I've got :
- an inclination equal to 157 (vs 56.7, a forgotten number '1') and
- an period = 10.02 (vs 0.02, again the forgotten '1')
All other datas are very similar.
Wikipedia

And

SIMBAD

Hope this helps. :)

bdfd wrote:I was allright, you have forgotten a '1' in front the value of inclination and period.

Can you update this ?
In STC files, the "Period" values are in YEARS, not days.

So, 10.02 / 365.25 = 0.02743353867214236824093086926762

365.25 is what Celestia uses to determine the length of a year in its calendar.

The Inclination value is the same as the default inclination value used in spectbins.stc in the the latest Celestia release. Plus, I recall that the plane astronomers use for their coordinate systems is different from what Celestia uses, IIRC. There are many discussions about this scattered across this forum. :)

But 3 numbers after comma are good.
For next release of Draylon, I'll update the period. :?
I don't know about you, but personally, I *hate* rounding numbers, especially in astronomy. So if a calculator gives me many numbers after the decimal point, by golly I'm gonna include those numbers!

Oops.

I looked in the zip file, which I have ABSOLUTELY NOT CHANGED since I uploaded it, and I think I found the problem.

In the "deltri_stars.txt" file, the "modify" declarations before the star names shouldn't be there. That, and the star info is incomplete.

Of course, you found it before I did. ;)

Here's the patched up "deltri_stars.txt" file. :)

deltri_patch.zip

I'll post a comment on the addon page too and provide a link to this post.

Of course, the installation procedure is the same: If you want to see the unique names appear as the labels when you press "b", copypasta the "deltri_stars.txt" data into "spectbins.stc", and so forth. :)

Thank you for catching it and bringing it up. :)

Why is that, exactly?

I mentioned in the screenshots thread that I fixed Celestia's inability to draw eclipse shadows cast by Belle Hades' inner moon, which was a result of the unique orbital setup of the planet/moon system.

I have a patch for the addon in the .zip file attached to this post. It is in a text file (.txt), so you will need to manually replace the code for Lethe in the addon. Installation instructions are included in the file. :)
