Rosetta .3ds model

Hello again
I couldn't see a model of the Rosetta spacecraft on the Celestia Motherlode, so I wondered if anyone would have a use for my .3ds model. You can grab it here:

Once again, I'm afraid all I can offer is the model, someone else will need to add the necessary data and trajectory files.

Feel free to modify it and use it anyway you like.

When I originally made the model for Orbiter, I included asteroids 2867 Steins and 21 Lutetia and comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko in the package. I don't know if they are available for Celestia? I know Celestia renders comets in a much better way than Orbiter - I'd like to see the approach to the comet in Celestia!

Also, the Philae lander is complete in itself and could be "detached" (by editing the model) for a landing on the comet. Don't know how or if that is possible in Celestia, but if you want I can supply Rosetta and Philae as seperate models. Let me know if so.

Only 8 hours to go until 2867 Steins flyby - hope everything goes smoothly for the Rosetta team.
I'm looking forward to seeing the results/press conference tomorrow

I'm very excited for this encounter too. I'll try and have the Rosetta package done in time. The trajectory is complete already, though I haven't yet tested to see how close it actually gets to Steins.

Here's Brian's model packaged with a trajectory for Rosetta and orbits for Steins, Lutetia, and comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko:

This version will only work with Celestia 1.6.0 prereleases because it uses xyzv files for the trajectories of the spacecraft and the comet. It also uses multiple names for the asteroids (e.g. Lutetia and 21 Lutetia), which only works in 1.6.0. I will try and produce a version of the add-on that works with 1.5.1, though the lack of support for xyzv files makes it more difficult. The trajectories for Rosetta and Churyumov-Gerasimenko were generated from SPICE kernels using the spice2xyzv tool. I could have simply included the SPICE kernels, but that would increase the package size considerably, and the additional accuracy would only be useful for spacecraft operations people. The included trajectories should be accurate to within 1km. The Keplerian elements for Steins and Lutetia were produced by HORIZONS. They are the osculating elements for the time of the Rosetta fly-bys of these objects. I verified that the time of closest approach to Steins is dead on.

Note that this add-on covers the Rosetta mission only up until the approach to the comet. I wasn't able to find the SPICE kernel for the comet orbit phase of the mission, the the readme at NAIF suggests that it exists already.

Can anyone point me to where I can get the Celestia 1.6.0 pre-release? I couldn't find a working link anywhere on the forums (after a quick scan)....or is there an easy way to convert the package for use with the current 1.5.1 version? (Or maybe I'll just wait for Chris to do that!)

I am trying to visualize the upcoming Earth flyby of Rosetta with the modification of the rosetta add on given below. I am using Celestia 1.5.1. I have one problem and one question:
1) With the rosetta.ssc shown below I get the correct orbit, but the attitude is ignored. The log provides a message about reading the orbit spice kernel, but nothing about the kernels for the attitude (neither a "kernel read" message nor an error message). What am I doing wrong?

2) Once point 1) will be solved, how can I show the view along the spacecraft z/axis (the approximate viewing direction of the remote sensing instruments on Rosetta), with the direction of the x- and y- axes drawn into the visualisation?

I am new to Celestia and I feel the answers are completely trivial to you, so bear with me.....

Celestia v1.5.1 does not support SPICE rotation kernels. They were added in Celestia v1.6. In many cases, Celestia simply ignores catalog directives that it doesn't recognize.

Celestia can draw the body-fixed axes of an object. Right-mouse-button click on the object. In the popup menu, select Reference Vectors. Then select Body Axes.

Unless I misunderstand you, this is not what I am trying to do. I would like to get the view I would have sitting on Rosetta and looking along the spacecraft z-axis with a certain field of view. Essentially, a simulation of what the cameras on the spacecraft are going to see during the flyby.
