Replace Flares?

Post #1by Spaceman » 06.03.2008, 14:51

Hello :D

I downladed the 1.5.0. pre6 version of Celestia and i like it :D All i want to do now is to replace the original flare.jpg file of the texture folder. I download this addon and i replace the original with one of them.
Nothing! :o :(
The flare of the Sun and other stars is still the same. Why? A little help please

I confirm this problem. I've never tried to work toward a solution before, though.
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

Replace Flares?

Hi,

Also confirm addon doesn't work with 1.5.0 in fact suspect flare.jpg isn't
working period in 1.5.0. Flare definetly works in 1.4.1.

All I can tell you is that it used to work, but since I have replaced my
Sun with Runar's new Sun cover, I didn't pay any attention to it
anymore.

Selden? Chris? Any advice here?

Thanks, Bob

The flare texture is no longer used. It was replaced by a procedurally generated texture, i.e. it's hardcoded and cannot be changed without modifying the code.

Just curious, Chris, but why this change? 8O
I see that many people like to change the sun flare as per their taste, isn't it?

It's a small part of a move toward more rigorous treatment of glare effects that will be possible with high dynamic range rendering. The main point is that glare will be calculated, not just simulated by rendering a textured square.

It's clear, thanks.

Thanks for the explanation, Chris... I'll leave the add-on there with
a note concerning its relevance to 1.4.1, but I'll probably just delete
it at some point in the future.

Very much appreciate the information.

Thanks, Bob
