Triton Ice Plumes

This thread is a continuation of the Io plume thread here:
http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11829
I have started modeling the ice plumes on Triton (per request
![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
). I think I might be getting somewhere. The downfall is that animation is not possible right now. With Toti's animated texture work so much more will be possible and I am reticent to keep plugging away at things that could look significantly better not so far in the future... Any comments welcome.
Runar's work on clouds was critical for the look... Thanks Runar!
Needed the long lens for this shot...

I, for one, will wait with unbridled enthusiasm, along with a healthy
dose of patience thrown in for good measure. Take your time my
friend.
Your Io plumes were and ARE still fantastic additions to the realism of
realistic effects in the Solar System.
Again, many thanks for your efforts here.

Chris, even if animation is missing, this is a vey important addon for educational purposes.
I'm thrilled about this, thank you.
Bye

A few more shots. I got creative and added some terrain. I am having a tough time getting it to match the surrounding area though... Second shot was too wide for the post so I linked it.

Have you looked at this?
It works without VTs, too. Just add a plane with a semi-transparent DDS [dxt5] or png texture on it for the ground, and fade the edges of the texture into the worldmap:
http://forum.celestialmatters.org/viewtopic.php?t=36
... In this case, you could do without the elaborate model splitting and just add the plane, i think.

Buggs, your rendering here would be really great for the jets of black holes...

Re: terrain
Thanks Runar. I'll try that tonight...
Re: black holes
Yes Chris, that would be cool. Problem with these is the lack of movement (as usual). I like Cham's spiral movement trick. Maybe there is some mesh (heh) of the two that I can try...
