Anyone creating a new ISS model?

Just wondering if anyone has or would be willing to make a new model of the ISS as it will appear after STS-120 mission with the relocation of the P6 truss and Harmony node.

3DS Max version would be great. Thanks!

I will try to update the current model before the end of the mission. I've finally got my network sorted so I can get back to Anim8or.

As far as I can tell it's the new module and an extra solar array.

Are these the only differences to the current?

Would be nice if someone could get the solar panels to display their REAL
colors for a change. <smirk>

They are brown you know... Not blue...

Definitely better, but still not realistic... Sorry, just being a smart-aleck
because I spent DAYS trying to figure out what they really looked like and
how to change them on my machine. Come to think of it though, it could be
the specularity. Hee, hee. If I can change mine though, ANYONE can...

Thanks buddy... Another Limey...

We need a new ISS model for the Celestia base package. The current one is out of date, very crude looking, and has depth buffer artifacts when rendered. I'd like something not more than about 500k and compatible with the GNU Public License under which Celestia is distributed. bh, does your model meet those requirements, and if so, would you be willing to have it included in the Celestia package? It's much more attractive than the current model.

I'm a newb - (although I had celestia many many years ago on caldera linux & kde), just installed the autopackage on ubuntu feisty. I don't see any ISS initially. So that looks pretty good to me. I've since installed isscomplete.3ds from motherlode but its just all white. Where can I get this one instead?

FYI I installed iss3dcomplete.3ds in ../extras/models, the textures in ..extras/textures/hires, lowres and medres just in case.

I'm using the same model, and it looks GOOD on my 2-foot screen.
When you add it to the extras folder, place it in its OWN folder under
extras so that your add-on exists in the following layout:

Main folder - with SSC file goes here:
C:\Program Files\Celestia\extras\ISS

textures should be placed in:
C:\Program Files\Celestia\extras\ISS\textures\medres

model should be placed in:
C:\Program Files\Celestia\extras\ISS\models

Hope that helps. Is a better model than others I've seen. Of course if
Mr. Hundley does another one, it will be SPECTACULAR.

Thanks, Bob

There are several known problems with this model and the texture pack when using linux. See my posting in this thread: http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10134&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30

Hello Chris... the current model weighs in at around 1 meg I'm afraid... although it could well be optimised more... I don't know how to do it though.

I will work on the new version during this mission and see if I can get the file size down some more.

As for including in the Celestia package that would be great! I will have to get permission from Andrew Farnaby first as it's his base model.

hollerith the model as it is before this mission is here...
http://www.bobhundley.com/celestia/issjune07t.zip

Put in models directory

Textures...
http://www.bobhundley.com/celestia/issjpegs.zip

Put in Textures/Medres

Is it correct that bmps no longer show?

Steffens... I thought we fixed that converting the textures to jpegs? No?

Right, but I think he wrote about the model and the texture pack found on the Motherlode. There the problems still exist as far as I know. At least the texture pack referenced to by Adirondack contains only .bmp files.

Yes... all the older models... I guess the ones on CM and my site all link to bmp tex files. To make sure your particular model is textured you may need to grab both sets. Shall I stick with jpegs?

The problem is NOT exclusively OF Linux. As I said before,I can??t see small details like the US flag, the ESA and NASA logo.I??m using Windows XP SP2!

The flags are NOT on the model at the moment. If you want to see the flags you should download the ISS complete model and texture pack (BMPs) from my site.

Actually, the active side of the arrays have a bluish hue and the substrate (backside) are an orange in color. Now if you could set up the model so the arrays track the sun...

Thanks for being willing to update the model!

Heh... to get the arrays to track the sun aint that easy... I would have to make two models and then (I'm guessing a bit) write a seperate ssc for the arrays or some other script. Beyond me I'm afraid.

Selden?

If you make the solar panels separate models, I can make them sun-facing.

Chris... sounds cool. I'll update the current model structure post this mission, if I'm (and everyone else) is happy with that, then i'll split the model into two separates for the arrays.

danielj... are you getting no textures at all? I don't understand I'm afraid... maybe post a screenshot of what you have at present.
