Add-ons bugs

Post #1by Teemu Ruskeepää » 14.06.2007, 15:26

I downloaded the Extended Star Database 2 million version from Motherload. It was done by Pascal Hartmann and was said to work in 1.4.0. It doesn't work here. Both 1.4.0. and 1.4.1 Celestia versions have the same outcome. It says "cannot read the stars archive". I extracted it so that it replaced the original stars.dat. Was that the right thing to do? What to do to make the add-on work? I can't find the granthutchinson mod and it isn't listed here http://puzzle.dl.sourceforge.net/source ... -1.4.0.exe . You should add it there. Where else can I find that?

You need to use the converted version of Grant Hutchison. It should work for both 1.4.0 and 1.4.1. The original version of Pascal Hartmann was designed for 1.3.2.
Did you take a look at the motherlode?

Spatial Distribution of Bright Stars by Selden Ball

I was hoping to see stars more clearly but instead the stars have a disproportionate halo. Selden Ball should make the halo tweakeable, from a double pixel size to what it is now.

As I wrote elsewhere, add-ons are voluntary user efforts.

They are often unprofessionally done, since many users are lacking the respective know-how. The Motherlode does not involve any quality filtering or peer reviewing.

Instead of assigning people to do some homework for you

Selden Ball should make the halo tweakeable,

or

create the space dock from ST3 or 4 on Earth orbit. It is my favorite structure of the Star Trek.

how about showing us an example of what you manage to achieve, so we have a chance of finding out whether it's worth taking orders from you ;-)

Uh, guys, I have nothing to do with coding Celestia itself. i.e. There ain't nothing I kin do about halos around stars.

The "bright stars" Addon is just a list of stars in an STC catalog. They're defined with an arbitrarily bright absolute magnitude of -13. If you want dimmer halos, you can edit the catalog and reduce the AbsMag to whatever you think is appropriate.
