NEW Apollo models

Well, on Andrea's demand, here we go again for a new set of models...
The road will be long because I plan Apollo command/service module + LM, the LM on surface and the capsule with parachute before splash down... Hope this will be enough for Appollo missions

First test within Celestia:

Blimey Chris... neat job!

Hmmmm, sorry Chris, but I'm sure you missed a couple rivets along the body frame, in total they should be 5645, not 5643.
Seriously speaking, my God, it's wonderful now, I cannot imagine the final result. 8O
Well done indeed, appreciated.
Bye

Andrea :D

Beautiful model as your vostok

A friend has me is spirit to make a calculation programme of orbit for the files ssc and the orbits xyz. This program will enable us to send the N1 rocket on the Moon with all the stages of the vol. lorqu' it will be finished, it will be able normally to calculate any type of flight.

I'd love to see a complete mission like your Russians one, but I'm not sure my config will allow me to do all the necessary models; I'l contact you to see what can be done...

Christou, I'd drool but that would ruin my computer. Very beautiful models. I can't wait til you finish.

Seems the last Cmodtool don't fix anymore this kind of seam due to mapping in 3DS... something can be done? Dirk? Chris?

In loving memory of Apollo 1 - Grissom, White, Chaffee - January 27 1967. :(

A must have for sure, very beautiful... and touching.

Wow... superb detail Chris. I'm thinking this is going to be a heavy model.

Thats a damn nice looking model there El Christou :)

This may be a stupid question but did you weld the vertices on the engine bell in 3dsmax before you exported? If not that may be your problem with the seem. Try welding, then unify normals, and smooth it to about 30%, and see how that turns out.

I'm not on PC, so I don't use 3Dmax; this kind of seams is a problem occuring with mapped 3DS, but the CmodTool was supposed to eliminate it; in previous version all was fine, but right now I cannot say if it's a problem with the CmodTool itself or something due to te last change of rendering... :?

The CSM alone is still ok on my config Tx to the systematic optimization of meshes (Vostok was much heavy); now with the LEM... :?

What program do you use to model with?

Amapi Pro 7.5 pour the modelling (no more available, the compagny has been bought, the code of the soft is now used in another soft, I don't recall the name) and Cheetah 3D for mapping, smothing transparency and spec settings. Cheetah is not a Pro soft but do the job.

I used to have Amapi on my windows box... it was a free early version off a cover disk. I must find it and reinstall. I use Anim8tor for mapping and tweaking.

I haven't got any modelling soft for the mac... may have a go with cheetah.... although I've sort of fallen off the modelling plate!

Amapi is just fantastic once you are used to it; what I really love is to be able to take whatever poly as reference plane, this give an astonish freedom in the modeling (I never use multi views, only one full screen, moving all around the point of interest...). To me Cheetah is like a dinosaur in comparison, but all is question of habits; Cham for example has done some fantastic models with it.

Despite very few spare time, the CM model is growing slowly... let's say 80% done:
