Searching For...

... a 3DS model of spacecraft debris. There does not need to be anything recognizable, save for metallic pieces of junk, essentially. I don't suppose anyone has ever made anything like this?

Well, Ran III contains quite a lot of it, actually. An example:

As Ran III is not finished, i can??t really give it away to be used in some other Add-On yet, but if you only are going to use it only for 2D / images, we could work something out. Else, you may pick anything you want after it has been released (jan/feb next year).

Thanks for the kind offer!

However, I'm making a small Trek add-on featuring the world of 892-IV (Magna Roma), and the debris is supposed to be that of the destroyed SS Beagle. Since I'm statying as close to canon as possible, I thought that I'd keep the debris rather unrecognizable as being a part of any real ship (there exist no canon depictions of the Beagle).

Not being able to make models, I'm pretty much left whith searching out resources online where I can. And I definitely wouldn't want to take anything away from the much anticipated release of your great work!

There's a piece of junk in my Zeta Reticuli addon, on the Motherlode. I was also planning to make many more destroyed spaceships for some future update to this large addon, but I didn't found free time to do it yet.

This piece is in my Zet addon :

Hi Cham...

Hmm... that kind of looks like a ruined warp nacelle (the epissode that this is based off of had Spock mention detecting "pieces of the nacelle and various personal items", or something to that effect.

Do you mind me using it, and if so how should you be referenced? I've been meaning to download that add-on again anyway, now that I'm running on a new computer.

Now if I could just have some tiny bits and pieces floating about with it.

Use it as you wish. Only credits in some read-me file should be enough.

I don't plan to update this addon until some times, maybe next winter (??). I want to produce a large graveyard of "dead" ships, destroyed machines, etc, all in orbit around a planet with many pieces of asteroids floating around. That's a project for the future. I also wanted to produce a space episode of the Titanic smashed by some icy asteroid. Actually, the spaceship I'm working on right now (shown elsewhere) was supposed to be a destroyed Titanic, at first. That's why I made the hexagonal structure, since it was supposed to be the internal parts exposed after a blast. That project changed completelly during the production.

EDIT : The problem with junky spaceships is they are very difficult to do. To have a realistic feel, it needs **LOTS** of details, randomly distorded panels and tubes, cables mess, etc. And it also needs alot of texturing, since it can't be a clean ship anymore. So modeling partially destroyed ships is pretty tough.

Sweet. By the time that I get back from work tonight, the downloads should be completed, and I'll look through it for the debris piece. I'll include your email, and add-on location at the Motherlode (unless you have some other preferences).

Hey Cham...

Found that portion of the add-on, and that piece of space debris looks perfect! One question, though: you don't happen to have a smaller version of it, do you? No big deal if you don't, I was just curious. I will say that I love the detail that is present in this piece, though. I really love those circular girders!

John,
To make it smaller, surely you would just change it's radius in the SSC file.

I suspect he means "smaller file" as in "lower resolution" and "better performance" :)

**chuckles** Yeah, Selden has the right of it.

The model is, in itself, larger than all the other files for this add-on combined. BUT... I don't want to make a big stink out of it, since Cham is graciously letting me use this in what is essentuially a very simple add-on. I was mainly just curious about it.
