Holy Crap! This is your best work yet. It is spectacular!!! :D The detail in the accretion disk is ... well ... GOSH!

My only question is whether you ever figured out why your nebula disappear at a distance of more than 1 LY. Many other nebula in Celestia add-ons do not and can be seen from hundreds of LY out. Is it the way the add-on is set up???
Frank

Thanks :)

Yes, the nebula is set up to disappear at some distance, because I defined it as an ssc object, not a dsc. This is to prevent any interference with real stuff out there. There are two other reasons : the frame rate is better this way, and the nebula is ugly as seen from outside : it's just a sphere ! There's a small catch, however : while close from the black hole, you can't click on a star. Clicking a star will select the nebula (or some part of the accretion disk).

Well, I didn't remember it to be soo bad. It was clearly designed as a B-Movie in the tradition of 'Forbidden Planet', and it was quite funny :)

I liked most of the design features of the movie, but the Vincent and Bob robots just didn't fit in.

Cham,

There was a recent posting asking about the availability of the model you show. Where did you get it?

I found the model on this web site :

http://www.3dcommune.com/3d/free.mv?Pos ... ly+5+go+0+

There's a HUGE amount of stuff there, and I've found it by accident. The original model was a single piece in the .obj format. I had to separate the model in several pieces and convert it to 3ds so it can be used in Celestia. I'll probably release the model with the black hole (CygnusX-1) when I'll upload it to the Motherlode.

Don't forget the XYZ-data!
(can this be derived from the movie anyway?)

No, not bad, early dark Disney, I wanted to be Maximillian Schell's character (or his robot), what an evil dude. "In, through, and BEYOND!" rings in my ears. God I can still hear it and I havent seen that movie in over 20 years. Beautiful work...
