zepo,

Which StarWars Addon did you install?
Exactly what is its name and where did you get it?

There are several and each has different characteristics.

If you haven't already, you should read the Web page
http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... intro.html
and do the examples in it.

It should help you understand how Addons are supposed to work. Then you should be able to figure out what's wrong with what you're doing with the Death Star Addon.

The contents of that Addon need to be reorganized in order to work with the current version of Celestia. It was created long ago.

You should consider reading http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... intro.html
especially section 1.4, which describes where the various components of an Addon should go.

Here are explicit instructions:

Create a folder in Celestia's /extras/ folder for the addon. You can call it whatever you want. e.g. /extras/DeathStar/

drag the catalog files (ssc, stc) from the /extras/ folder that's in the zip file into the folder that you just created.

Drag the entire /models/ folder from the zip file into the folder that you just created.

Drag the entire /textures/ folder from the zip file into the folder that you just created.

Use Notepad to look into the SSC catalog file that you dragged over. Note the name of the star that the planets are orbiting around. (It's HD 143761 Note the space between HD and the number)

Start Celestia
type

Code: Select all

[return]
HD 143761
[return]
g

( [return] stands for the large Carriage-Return key at the right edge of your main keyboard. It's sometimes labelled [enter] )

Celestia will take you to Endor's star.

Open Celestia's Navigation menu
Open the item Solar System Browser...
A new window will open on your screen. It will list all of the bodies in the star system. click on any [+] to expand them.

Double-click on the name of the body you want to visit.

If this procedure doesn't work, you'll need to specify *exactly* where it fails for you or what part of it you don't understand.

Don't go by the contents of the "enter menu". It only shows the contents of the "name" fields of the textual (SSC, STC, DSC) catalogs. It does not show stars that are in the binary catalogs. There are just too many of them.

Just go ahead and type the star's id, including the final [return].

If it has been properly defined, the star's name then will appear in the upper left hand corner of Celestia's window, at which point it is "selected."

Once you're at a viewpoint that you like, you can bookmark it. Use the "Bookmarks" menu.

If you know how to create Web pages, you can have Celestia write a URL of the viewpoint to the clipboard under Windows by typing a Ctrl-C and then paste it into the Web page with a Ctrl-V.
