My 1ST Brown Dwarf Ready 4 Download

Post #1by Tech Sgt. Chen » 28.10.2005, 00:37

Opening Comment: What a super job on the space shuttle model by ElChristou. Absolutely astounding!

Now, down to business. I've recreated and refined my Wolf-Rayet star texture (completely theoretical of course). I tried to recreate the turbulent atmosphere and incorporate it into the photosphere since I don't yet have the expertise to make an animated version (and I don't like copying other peoples work). Here's a couple of pics:

Additionally, I'm working on my first Brown Dwarf texture. I found this picture (I forget the website) which I used as a reference.

I wanted to make it a little different than all the others available so, I fashioned mine after the second one to the right of the Sun (not exactly the same though). Here's a screenshot of it:

I would appreciate any references to websites with pictures (artist renditions) of Brown Dwarfs like this that lack the horizontal bands. I thought I found most of them but, you never know.
Post Script: I placed the Brown Dwarf texture -pictured- (for convenience) on a star in order to test the emissive effect.

Hi guys. Listen, they're telling me the uh,
generators won't take it, the ship is breaking apart and all that. Just, FYI.

Those are pretty cool, I like the BD one (that's for an L dwarf?), a nice transition between stellar surface and planetary.

The W texture is pretty neat. IIRS they have a ferocious stellar wind, so I think they usually have a nebula of material around them too. Dunno if you could do that sort of thing as well?

Tech Sgt. Chen,
Very nice. I have often toyed with the idea of making a Brown Dwarf texture myself. I always wanted mine to have a dark but convective surface. But at this point I haven't found any images or open source picture tuxtures around with the right look and feel that I want. But i always keep my eyes open. Keep up the good work.

I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

Good work. I look forward to seeing these released.

One note regarding the picture you have attached of brown dwarfs. I have also seen the picture somewhere before. I think the bodies are (from left to right) a sunlike star, a red dwarf, a hot brown dwarf, a cool brown dwarf and some planetary imposter called Jupiter.

It's from here:

It's the sun, an M V red dwarf star, an L brown dwarf, a T brown dwarf, and Jupiter.
