Post #1by Cormoran » 07.08.2003, 17:49

Hello all,

For those who saw my sample posts related to this system and were interested, please use the links below to grab the 40 Eridani system.

Anyone who wants to have the asteroid belt too, download:

I hope you like it. I may add to it as the mood takes me... :)

Did you make the updates to Vulcan that I suggested?
I won't download the file now as it is 8.3 megs and would take me 30 min to download. I just simply don't have the time right now.
From te screens the system looks great and I will download it later today. :)

I didn't get around to creating a new cloud map for Vulcan, unfortunately :(

The method I use to generate unique cloud maps is a bit time consuming, and my 6 month old son takes up much of my time.

He's gonna love Celestia when he's older though :)

As I say, this is just version 1 of Vulcan and its sister worlds. Updates will be posted on a piece by piece basis, for those of us with slow connections.

I'm quite proud of the asteroid belt details though. Nice and varied orbits. I may work on Kirkwood gaps and generation of Oort clouds in the next version of the Asteroid Generator. It takes the donkey work out of building the belts.

Cheers,

Cormoran

Could you make them less than 2 megs?
That would really speed up the download time.
For the 8 meg file the speeds are 2 kb ps :(
Could you possibly break the Download into several pieces?
That would siginificantly increase the download speed.
I've been cherishing an extra 8/100th of a kb ps ever since I've gotten dial-up...
6 Month old son? I Have an 8 month old sister, I'm hoping she will also enjoy Celestia as She matures :)

Okay, so its a teeny weeny system. 2 planets, 7 moons....compact and bijou. The next ones will be bigger (No one told me size mattered that much), though because I have limited space some downloads will be cycled off of the server as newer ones come online.

Did anyone actually download this? If ya did, I'd be interested in your opinions.

And sorry shadow, I can't chop the file into bits at the moment. Perhaps from now on I'll just supply the jpg files and let people convert them to dds at their end.

If you chop it up, you should be able to host it there.

This is probably a bit late, but I downloaded it, and I thought it was very interesting. I liked how every world looked unique to one another.

Michael,

Thanks for the comments. It was my first (and only) published system, after which I went back to the drawing board and started working on my maps, and a solar system generator.

I would recommend that you check out Jestr's version of the 40 Eri system. Its much superior to my effort (Though I'm technically its uncle, since he used my SSC and some of my textures as a basis :) ).
