Strange behavior of some of jestr's moon models

Hi,

My system: CPU 1500MHz/512 MB RAM, GF2 MX400 64MB, Linux
Celestia: 1.3.2pre10?/11 and 1.3.2 final

I experienced the following behavior with about 10% of the models
(e.g. Iocaste, Larissa, ... most other moons, e.g. Metis, are ok):

- with SuSE 7.3/nvidia Driver 4-something there are "holes" in the models
(sorry, can't reproduce screenshots because I upgraded)

- with SuSE 9.1/nvidia Driver 6111 (the latest for Linux) the SAME models
look ok, but as long as they are in view, celestia becomes slow

It seems to me, that only models that are deeply indented are affected.

With "becomes slow" I mean that celestia becomes quite jerky and
frame-rates drop to about 6-10.

Anybody out there who can reproduce this?

Hallo,

guest jo wrote:Hello hjw,
I don't know if thats useful but I had a quite similar effect (but on windows xp):
After converting a lot of moon-textures from jpg to dds I had several moons with holes in it , also the colours were a bit like rainbow colors.
After using the old jpgs everything was ok.
The effect was also strange when I left a moon looking back:
the moon disappeared from the inside to the outside.
Maybe anyone can draw any conclusions out of this.

thanks, I just tried JPG instead of DDS --- same effect
