Problem with Apollo 11 Add-On

Post #1by Guest » 13.08.2004, 15:23

Hello, i'm new here, and have a problem. I downloaded the Apollo 11 add on and put it into the file "extra". If i want to find apollo in celestia, it shows me in the middle of the universe, but not on the moon. :roll:

Can somebody help me and say me, where i have to put it right?

ThX :lol:

Possibly you don't have a proper scc-definition for your addon.
You can read about addons on seldens celestia pages: http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/, or you can download a almost complete set of spacecraft addons from my page, including the apollo program (click on www-button).

No ICQ, sorry.
It would be a good idea to stay with english if possible. One of the reasons is, that others may have the same problem and would like to follow a discussion or unterstand the hints for a solution.

The reason why you can't see gallileo may be that this spacecrafts exists only within a certain time range. You will have to set celestia to this time to see the spacecraft. Same for some apollo spaceships or lunar landers, where you have to go back to the 60ies. fgregs has made a list of valid spacecraft dates - I don't know where, just search the forum for it

That means, that i can see apollo 11 landing machine on the moon only, if i go back to the 60's? but why, the moon is still there, where he is today. or shall i change the date of this day, the apollo was landing?

The landing platform should be still there. The module not. You might take a look into the ssc-definition in .../spaceships/apollo/apollo11:

Code: Select all

...

"Apollo 11" "Sol/Earth/Moon"
{
   Class "spacecraft"
   Mesh "apollo1.3ds"
   Beginning "1969 07 19 17:21:00"
   # Ending - not listed - keep in orbit
   Radius 0.010

...

"Apollo 11 Lander" "Sol/Earth/Moon/#1"
{
    Class "spacecraft"
    Mesh "lander.3ds"
    Radius 0.010
    Beginning   2440423.34560    # The LM landed at 20:17:40 UT on 20 July 1969
    #Ending      2440424.24583    # The LM lifted off from the Moon at 17:54:01 UT on 21 July 1969

...

Well, both endings are in comments, so both should still be there.

There is also apollo ground stuff at .../ground stuff/luna landing sites. But here I put that one for apollo 11 into comments to avoid overlapping with the other one.
